Is your LO now using a utensil with every meal? Do you offer them a spoon or a fork normally?

I give Major a utensil with every meal but it's pretty hit or miss that he will actually use it. He gets forks for most meals and spoons for things like oatmeal or yogurt. He usually does ok starting out and will use the utensil for the first 3-5 bites but then he just starts using his hands, while never letting go of the utensil. Sometimes in mid-meal, he will start using the utensil again for a bite or two, but usually goes back to hands.

Rylan loves to use utensils! He eats most things with a fork, except for yogurt and pudding which you pretty much have to eat with a spoon. He does pretty well using them, but will sign help if he gets frustrated.

Owen won't eat unless he's got utensils. He doesn't really always use them but he loves to have them with him. The other night I made fresh green beans. He would stick them with his fork then pull them off with his hands to eat them.

My boys were the same way !

They were interested in utensils at first because they they thought they were a toy or something, but when they realized it slowed down the eating process for them... forget it.

I swear my boys ate with their hands until they were in kindergarten !

i give trey utensils with every meal (typically a spork type thing unless its yogurt or apple sauce, then of course he gets a spoon) but he is SO bad at it that he typically resorts to using his hands. Which is fine, if he's eating something solid, but I feel so bad for him when he's eating his yogurt or applesauce. i will usually sit near and if after a couple of attempts with his spoon, if its all landing in his lap, i will help guide it into his mouth for him.

i really feel like he's regressed in this area. i used to think he fed himself really well, but not so much anymore. it's painful to watch.

Haidon does really well with utensils. She eats cereal with a spoon almost every morning and she uses a fork about once a day depending on what we are eating. She even turns the fork on its side to try and cut her food! She can't do it, but it's cute to watch her try!

hahah this is Jenna exactly! Or she would stare me in the eye, and then dip her hand in the container cause she KNOWS she's not supposed to.

She does well with utensils for the most part. We give her a spoon more than a fork just because of the type of food we eat (we eat a lot of rice) It really depends on what we're having...sometimes it's a spoon, fork or just plain hands.

Kelen tends to use his utensils more than his hands. He gets upset if I don't give him a fork for dinner. More often than not, he gets food in his mouth, even though he sometimes turns it the wrong way. I caught him drinking out of my tea mug with the spoon the other day, so I may try soup this winter.

colin is the exact same way when he's using his spoon and fork. He'll be eating with his hands, but never dropping the fork

I so think this will be true for Lucas as well. Of course he gets a fork/spoon, but at age 4, he still wants to use his hands. Oh my he is sooo messy when he eats. He literally BULLDOZES thru his food. We had cornbread with our dinner tonight, so you can only imagine his mess. Jude is less messy than Lucas.

I offer silverware for Jude at each meal. He is hit or miss with usage. For foods like yogurt, chili, soup, jello, etc I will feed him those. He tends to put his full hand in those foods.

i offer a fork or spoon with almost every meal. sometimes chase uses them, sometimes he doesn't. when he does use them, he does a good job.

my kitchen is regularly a sticky, crumb filled MESS. three boys....and it's the middle one who makes the most mess.....wiping his hands on the table or his shirt...eating crackers like a chipmunk....

I offer with each meal and he usually does pretty well with them. When he starts to get annoyed he will just eat with his hands.
