This happened here in GA so has been big news here... just wanted to share.

A 7 year old girl was browsing in the toy section of wal-mart when a man came and tried to kidnap her. She kicked and screamed and put up a fight the way they teach the kids to do in school and he dropped her/let go and she took off running to get somebody. They caught it on video.

7-year-old girl says school taught her to fight back in attempted abduction - KCPQ

OMG that´s scary but on the other hand, I´m super proud of the little girl.

The parents should be ashamed though.

Wow, we saw this on the news last night. How scary...... This was how little Adam Walsh (America's Most Wanted... John Walsh's son) was kidnapped in the 80's.

When I taught, our school counselor presented lessons to young children about how to react to threats from strangers. She used puppets and role playing with the kids. I observed her teach one of these "lures" lessons. It was done in a way that didn't frighten the children but empowered them to respond to threatening situations. The kids would role play screaming if a stranger tried to abduct them. The rest of the kids would applaud for the loudest screams. It really does help.

My DS was approached by someone in a car.....right in our neighborhood. He remembered the lessons and didn't go near the car. He ran straight home. Another time, my ex lost both boys in a huge suburban mall. Tula's dad was only four but my older son was eight and had had the lures training. He stayed with his little brother and found a mall cop as soon as he could. Thank God ...

Stranger awareness training is taught in many elementary schools now. It really makes a difference.

I remember the school counselor coming to us with puppets periodically in first grade to teach about this, sexual abuse etc and it was always a favorite time for our classroom... We loveddddd that puppet! Lol

I saw this on the news yesterday morning While I'm very happy the little girl knew what to do and got away, I can't believe the mother left a 7 year old to play in the toy aisle by herself. Every Wal-Mart I've been in is set up pretty much the same- the toy aisle is on the opposite side of the store as the produce! They (the parents) deserve any and all backlash they are getting for that move.
