So I was browsing recipes the other day and came across a featured recipe on allrecipes.com. It had the best reviews of any recipe I had ever seen, like literally 5 star after 5 star and it was SO easy, I had to try it. It's Apple Dumplings and all you need is 2 apples, 2 cans of crescent roll dough, sugar, butter, cinnamon and a can of Mountain Dew! So here is the recipe:

Country Apple Dumplings Recipe - Allrecipes.com

And here are photos I took along the way:

You cut each apple into 8 pieces and wrap the dough around them:

Then you melt your butter in a small pot and add the sugar to it. The recipe calls for all white sugar but I like brown sugar with my apple pie, so I used a mix of both. Then pour the mixture over:

Then pour a can of Mountain Dew over it. You can use Diet (which is what I had on hand) or if you don't like the idea of a caffeinated drink, some people use Ginger Ale or diet Ginger Ale. The soda gives it a sticky sauce:

Bake for 35 minutes and this is what you get:

And just like the reviews say, they are SOOOOOOOOOOOO good! Ooey Gooey goodness and such a cinch to make. And you can lessen the calories and fat by using Reduced Fat crescent rolls and Splenda, and of course the diet soda. I am pretty sure DH and I will have these polished off by the end of the night. Major doesn't seem too interested but he doesn't care too much for sweets.

That looks really good. I wish I had the ingredients at home. Next time I go to the store it's on like donkey Kong.

We used to make something similar on Sunday before church when I was a kid. They're delicious and so much fun to make, particularly for a kid.

Great idea about the vanilla icecream, too !

I've heard of them but never made them. My great-aunt makes fried apple pies with pillsbury and apples.

OMG Nicole, I think I just gained 5 pounds!

I read all the reviews and of course I HAD to run to the store to pick up all the ingredients. DH, Daryn and I all just finished two helpings each. Best recipe ever.

Yay! I'm glad you made them and liked them! I told DH last night (after we had polished off the whole pan), "I'm sad our apple dumplings are gone.". I don't think I have ever mourned a food before. I am going to make them again next weekend to take to my parents!
