I am sorry you guys hear my issues, but I had to type it out. I went back to the blood doctor today, and my platelets dropped 30,000 points...ugh! So the doctor was very nice, and basically said she really thought I would have had the baby by now. She said that this should be treatable, but she doesn't want to see a trend. So my platelets are at 130k today which is still good, but she said she doesn't want to see me come back Fri and them be back down to 98k or even 78k. In a polite way she said it would be very nice if my ob would induce me today and avoid any potential issues. She said that the treatment would consist of me coming in this Friday for blood work and an IV of steroids. Then back in on Monday for the same thing...............only issue is Monday is a holiday and I get checked into the hospital at 5pm. So they are checking to see if they can give the iv's there. Not to mention the Iv's I already have to have for other issues. So basically we have only a few days to delivery, but those few days could make a big difference. Not only could the lack of platelets cause a nix on an epidural, and in case of a c section I would have to be put asleep, but they could cause the need for a transfusion, etc. I can have Jude natural, but with his issues they really want me to be ready to go on a c section. Also per the perinatalist the more pain you are in the less your body responds appropriately and I can stop producing platelets during the delivery all together.
So basically Mike and I have the same stance that if possible we would either like an assurance that the steroids would work, or a delivery today/tomorrow to avoid any further potential problems. They also didn't have the other blood work back today to check the potassium level, etc so we are waiting on that too.

Not the news we expected to hear today. Rather frustrating!

******** *** Well I didn't hear back from OB which is unusual so I called again. I wanted yesterdays platelet count anyway and she had done a pre-delivery CBC. They didn't have that on hand, but the nurse said "well they aren't going to do anything different". I told her that answer was unacceptable and I want to talk to the dr personally about possible implications from this issue. She seemed very taken back and said she would pass the msg on. Have I gotten a return call? Nope and they closed at 4. So I am realllllllllllllllly miffy today!

I just love how people who work in doctor's offices think that their time is so much more important than everyone else! I hope they get it together and you get a call back tomorrw!

Sorry to hear Jen that they aren't speeding this process up but consider this. If it was very important to deliver today because of complications then you would be delivering today. If they are not rushed then the urgency is not there. Because of the sue factor doctors don't take unnessary chances.

Hope you go into labor soon.

i am sorry to hear all this. I hope that someone calls you back soon. But I agree with Cinder about the sue factor.

I was not able to get a epidural and had to be knocked out for my emergency csection. I woke up to a nurse rubbing my stomach and having a transfusion and went back to sleep. The worse was that I didn't get to see baby until late that evening. I honestly don't remember much at all with my hospital stay up until we took Crystal to Childrens Hospital to be admitted (she was born at 32wks from HELLP). I thought I would have been sad or felt cheated but honestly I haven't because I don't know I guess I jsut figure it was for the best. I dunno... it took awhile to get there LOL

Good luck and KUP....

I agree and disagree I have no issues waiting until Monday to get checked in EXCEPT for the fact that the platelets may fall again. My aunt is an OB nurse and said she really feels like the dr isn't handling this the right way. My cousin is a midwife and feels the same way and boy she is real annoyed. The ob nurse said the specialist has made it known she thinks we need to deliver. She then states she thinks the dr believe I just want to have the baby which isn't the case. Steroids are very hard on your body and I have been on them for two months now this in addition to the hydronephrosis of both kidneys, gallstones, fast heartrate, +GBBS, etc etc. I really didn't want additional bags and bags of steroids. This is now 3 Iv's I will have to have over the next few days. All this to make sure I don't bleed out, I can have an epidural, if a c section is needed it won't require me to be knocked out, etc. Also, they still cannot explain my fast heartrate and the babies fast heartrate. I am rather aggravated. I will be 38 weeks in 3 days and she is putting it off for that reason when it seems to be more beneficial for me and him to get this done. I don't like chemicals pumped into me or the baby. I know I am just complaining but I am aggravated. Speaking of suits my aunt is married to an attorney who has made it clear if something happens to us due to the steroids or the delay they will seek a suit. Sad, but that's how they feel. Just praying that the platelets don't drop again and we can just make it until Monday night. Then he will be here by Tues and no more worries except those relating to Jude's enlarged ventricles and we are still hoping he is normal. What a roller coaster this has been.

You have every right to be agrivated. I hope you don't sue because that would mean something bad has happened.
