My husband and I are ready to start a family, but I haven't discontinued my coumadin yet. So, How long does one wait after discontinuing the coumadin before trying to conceive? I have heard that one needs to wait at least a few months after discontinuing it so that it's completely out of your body. I'm just really ready to start a family, and I want to do it safely! We're sure that we want to start trying to get pregnant at the end of October/early September, but we're not really sure when I need to actually get off the coumadin.

Hello and welcome!

I got pregnant while on coumadin. I was immediately switched to Lovenox, and my little girl is now 19 months and there have been no side effects from the coumadin.
We are planning on ttc this time next year, and though I have not discussed it with my doctor, other than in passing, I know that he will want me on Lovenox then. Not being on an anticoagulant is not an option for me. I have Factor V Leiden, a history of clots and I even managed to clot while on Lovenox.
Why are you on coumadin? Just curious.

I'm pretty much the same as Emsketch. Being off anticoagulants is not an option for me. I'm on coumadin now and am TTC. When I get pg, I'll switch to lovenox.

You can start now. You don't need to discontinue your Coumadin.
