I'm sure this might sound weird, but I'm not sure if I'm high risk. I have been going to a fertility doctor for a while now. When we finally got to the point where we needed to do IUI, my nurse told me that it would cause me to have a high risk pregnancy.

After two cycles of IUI, I got pregnant. They haven't actually said the words "high risk" to me since I got pregnant, but I had an ultrasound yesterday and I have another one scheduled for next week. That will be two u/s before 8 weeks. I feel as though they are treating me like I'm high risk.

I suppose I will ask during my next ultrasound. Any thoughts?

I think they treat women who undergo fertility treatments like that high risk until the end of the first trimester. I'm not sure why though. Hope that helps some!

Congrats on your pregnancy!!!

One of my friends who did IUI didn't end up seeing a high-risk doc, but she had no history of miscarriage and did IUI because she and her partner are gay. My friend who did have history of miscarriage and did IUI ended up seeing a high-risk doc. So it may depend on your history and why you're doing IUI.

Thanks. I've never had a miscarriage before, we just had a lot of trouble conceiving. Mainly because my eggs weren't maturing properly, so I needed some help in that department.

I asked my fertility doctor if I'm considered high risk and he said "No". He said that as long as I don't have any other factors that would make me high risk, I'm fine. They still have me going for a third u/s next week. My nurse said that since we worked so hard to get pregnant, they want to make sure everything is OK.
