Hello, I was told that a velamentous cord insertion only happens in 1% of pregnancies, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
A little back story..
I am 13 weeks pregnant and last week, I went to Mexico for a week. Everything seemed uneventful during the week, but as soon as the plane landed on the way home, I started bleeding. It was light at first but bright red. Then, on the way home ( 2 hour drive from airport), I had my husband stop at a rest stop. By that time, I was bleeding heavy enough to soak through my pants with heavy large clots. ( some the size of my fist). I was certain my pregnancy was over as I have experienced miscarriages before, and that's what happened when I bled. But, we got to the hospital, and an ultrasound revealed a healthy baby with a placental hematoma and a velamentous cord insertion. My cervix was closed and I was sent home.
2 days later, I seen my OB and she said that needed referral to the maternal specialist. She said the bleeding and the VCI were completely unrelated, but if the 4D ultrasound confirmed the VCI, then I would have to have a cesarean birth after lung maturity was established because of the risk of the ruptured membranes in a natural delivery. She also said that they would do frequent ultrasounds to make sure that fetal growth was on track.
I'm very concerned with this and would love to hear from anyone who has experienced this.
I dont have experience with this but i do know how scary complications during pregnancy can be. I have had one preemie and i was on bed rest with my #2 baby. Im now pregnant with #3. Even despite it being scary and with so much that your unsure about it it is so important to just enjoy being pregnant. Enjoy this time with your baby and soon you will be snuggling him/her. I will keep you in my prayers.
