I posted this in the Pregnancy After Loss board too but want to see if someone in here might have some insight.

I have had 1 m/c (Dec 04) and since then have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Medication has it well under control. I also have PCOS.

I asked my obgyn for progesterone test (apparently this is not something obgyns normally do automatically). When my HCG was 119 my progesterone was only 5.5. This is VERY low. I asked for Progesterone supplements (this was not something I believe they were going to automatically give me had I not asked for them). They gave me 100mg per day (in pill form to be taken by mouth). I had to ask for a retest of the prog. level a week later (I guess they were just not going to concern themselves with this issue). The results came back with my level still low -8.7. I asked for the dosage to be increased and she did -- 200mg per day. With no mention of another retest just come back and see us in 4 weeks.

Well, I was concerned that I would m/c again. So I arranged to see a specialist. This doctor is actually a fertility specialist and normally see people who are TTC not those who are already pregnant. But he agreed to see me and has been very nice and taken alot of time to explain things to me.

The specialist explained that with prog. level of 8.7 I would most likely m/c again. I had a U/S done and things looked ok (heartbeat too). But the lining was rather thin (hence the low prog. level).

Here is my question now... he has prescribed shots -- progesterone and estrogen to be taken daily in addition to the 200mg of prog. I am taking orally. My prog level (checked 4 days after I started taking 200mg orally and before any shots) was 24 -- much better. My estrogen level is 249 -- not bad he says but not good either. He'd like to see it around 2000. I am 7 wks 4 days along now.

My concern is about the use of estrogen in pregnancy. He assures me not to be concerned with the warnings because they really apply to the synthetic version of this drug but the manufacturers plaster it on anything estrogen related for fear of lawsuits. He tells me it is safe to take and the risks are minimal.

Have any of you been precribed this treatment? If so, how did it go for you? Many thanks!
