I am dropping in from the September ddc. I had my anatomy u/s yesterday and he found a 2 vessel cord. He checked everything as usual and said that things looked great and baby was a little ahead of schedule. I went home, and like a dummy, read some things about 2 vessel umbilical cords. I am now very worried that there may be something wrong with the baby that he missed. Does anyone have any experience with this? I could use any information anyone has? Thank you so much!

I didn't know if this was a correct forum to put this or not??

Hi, your in the right place. A 2 vessel cord (or single umbilical artery) does put your pregnancy in a slightly higher risk. I also have this. As long as your labs come up normal, and they do not detect any problems during U/S everything should be fine. The main things they are going to watch is baby's developement and weight gain, amniotic fluid levels, and signs of preterm labor. Also, you'll most likely get to see your baby every 2 weeks or so in your last trimester. Other tests the may do are a fetal echocardiogram (a detailed u/s of baby's heart, to look for any malformations (which are sometimes associated with SUA), and also arould 36 weeks a biophysical profile which is a long u/s and non-stress test where they will monitor fetal movement, muscle tone, breathing, heart rate and amniotic fluid. They will give your baby a score from 0-8 anything over a 6 is good, under a 6 it's off to delivery. I just had that test done and got an 8/8. I know things can be scary, but try not to worry too much (I know easier said than done). If you have anymore questions I'd be happy to offer any info I can give.

I really appreciate you reply. As far as stressing about the situation, I'm feeling a lot better about it. I go to the doctor for a regular check on the 24th of this month. At my last appointment, he didn't mention doing anything different to keep an eye on the baby then he would do for a normal 3-vessel cord. I kind of find that scary, but I am have a lot of questions written down to ask him.

I'm lurking from another room. My BF called the other night and had went for a ultrasound and they found the same thing. She is around 28 weeks. They told her the baby was already over 2 lbs., and in the 84th percentile for weight, but still makes you so nervous. She had asked me to post in here for her since she does not have internet and see if anyone had heard of this? Me having 2 kids had not. This is her 3rd baby. I was reading this morning and found your posts. I will have to share this information with her if you don't mind. They are sending her to a specialist in a couple weeks. Good Luck to you guys also!

I do not mind at all of you tell her about me. If she ever wants to talk, she can contact me anytime. I really felt alone at first, but more and more people are coming out of the woodwork with the same situation... it's very reassuring.

Thanks so Much! It is so scary. She has 2 other children so they are keeping her mind off things, but she is waiting now until the 25th of this month to see the specialist.
