I'm almost 29 weeks with my first and I'm worried that he wont make it through the pregnancy. He's underweight and he has a weak heart. I've started having contractions three times and last time I started to bleed. My doctor has put me on bedrest to prevent me from moving around to much. Anyone else gone through this? (Sorry if I've posted this on the wrong place)

Have the doctors talked to you about him having a better chance outside of the womb? Even though he would be super early..

I haven't gone through this. But my doc has already talked to me about my little one's weight. That if she starts to weigh too little or too much then he will most likely want to take her out early - that it might be a sign of something not working properly.

Are you seeing high risk doctor at a major hospital or anything? Maybe there is a problem with the placenta and its not providing him enough nutrients....

I wish you the best of luck and hope all turns out well. If I were you, I would find a top of the line specialist if I wasn't already seeing one.

While I have been in that situation, I was much farther along than you. I am wondering why you are not hospitalized.

Hope things go well for you.

How much under weight is your baby?
should be over a pound at your gestation... what do they say it is.

I've been hospitalized twice but that was only for a couple days before they sent me home. And then on friday we went to the hospital again because I started bleeding but I was told to go home after just a few hours. He weighed 779 grams last time I was on my check up and before that he was even smaller. He weighs 810 grams now but I dont know whats going to happen. My doctor said she wanted to wait because he might not live very long if we take him out now. I just want to keep him in there as long as possible so he'll survive. I can't stand to loose another baby.

Thanks

Natalie

That is far to small to be born.

Yeah, that's why I'm on strict bed rest for the rest off the pregnancy. It wasn't that much but it was enough to get worried. Last time I was pregnant I started bleeding much more then I did now and then I lost the baby so I was worried I was gonna lose him too.

Well just so you are aware

when they say strict bedrest they mean it. Sitting up straight is the same as standing so lets not be doing that.

Thank goodness for the internet eh? It will help while away the hours.

Wow that really is small.. They should be doing further tests or something to try to find out why he is not growing and why you are bleeding... Could you have a clotting disorder or another type of blood disorder?

At my 24 week appt, my little one weighed a little over 700 grams - about a pound and a half.

Atleast he is growing some even if it is only a little. Could they have your dates wrong and you only be 25/26 weeks?

I would think if you can get him to the 2 pound mark that he would have a somewhat decent chance of survival. Are they going to do an amnio soon to check lung development? Or give you the steriods to give the lungs some help?

Just stay completely flat in that bed and eat a lot. Maybe the extra calories you take in will help him grow some more. I am hoping you can get him to a better weight and he will make it.

I donít have clotting disorder or blood disorder thank god. I don't know what's wrong with the little one but I haven't really gotten a clear message from the doctor either. He has a weak heart and his lungs could have been better but other then that he seems healthy. He moves around a lot, kick, reacts to sounds. I have a really bad feeling that the reason he's not getting enough nutrients is because I was in hospital for anorexia last summer.. I'm not starving myself anymore and I've been really well for months. But I haven't gained much during my pregnancy and I'm afraid that's the reason he's not growing. The last 4 months Iíve been eating anything I want. Ice cream, cake, cookies, peanut butter.. anything. and Iím still not gaining much! Even when I lie in bed all day eating.
I am 29 weeks.. pretty sure about that.
Sold at 4 pounds! (Maybe even 5)

I'm wondering if there might be a bit of a problem with your placenta. Problems with the placenta are the most common causes of bleeding in the late 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Also, it's the orgin that nourshes the baby so if your little one is a bit underweight, perhaps it's because the placenta isn't doing it's job as correctly as in a normal pregnancy. This doesn't mean that things will go south. Normally bed rest is the way to go with placenta problems. Also, lying on your left side because for some reason, that position helps the baby absorb things from the placenta better such as nutrition and blood flow.

Placenta complacatons can possibly cause IUGR (inter uteral growth restriction) Prom(premature rupture of membrains) which means water breaking, Preterm Labor, Placenta abrupto....when the placenta tears away from the uterus. These are only possibilities though and even with them, the posibilities of a happy ending is rather high.

Can't explain the weak heart. Perhaps renting a doppler will help ease your mind with that.
