Are you having one? What is you age grouping?
When is it?

They are simple procedures (now a days). local anestitc, needle through belly (not painful) and then bed rest for the next day so that the amniotic sac will heal up and not leak.

They say I can chose if I want one or not...I had the testing done for downs, trisomy 18 and nural tube defects..my risk is higher than a normal 36 year old...I am having an ultrasound and then from there I can decide if I want one or not....I am so scared right now

So then you are having a neucal translucency scan today and if doesn't go well you are having the Amnio.

Well that is a good call. Don't be scared. Be strong for your baby.

I hope and pray you get good results on your neucal and can skip the Amnio.

My amnio wasn't painful, although a bit scary. I am a huge needlephobe and the needle is very thin, but it is also very long. Once it was inserted I realized I didn't have to panic, it wasn't hurting at all. My boss has had an amnio as well and neither of us suffered any complications from it.
