I'm letting my dh give me my P17 shot when we take our trip home after the holidays. I get them once a week, usually in the doctor's office. But I really can't miss a week and so one shot will have to go with us. I seriously have a phobia of needles - when it is done by a medical professional, never mind my husband, lol.
He went with my to my appointment Wednesday so the nurse could show him how to do it - and the whole time she's saying things like "This shot requires a very large needle." And "The worst thing you can do is hit the nerve." At least its just one shot. I don't know how people with chronic conditions handle this, I guess you just have to get used to it.
Just keep your eye on the prize! Remember why you are doing them in the first place and they become not so bad. I take shots 2 times a day now, but after the 21st it will be 4 times a day. I give them to myself (although I am a Paramedic and hold a Nursing/Emergency Medicine degree, LOL), my poor DH passes out just thinking about it. I dont like them, and they hurt quite a bit (the medicine BURNS) and I have HUGE welts and hematomas all over my tummy- but Im used to it and I dont have a choice.
