It's 7pm here and I'm ready for bed! I was in hospital with Layla the last two nights - we got home this afternoon and she is healthy, happy and smiley . She had high temps, fast respiratory rate, vomiting and a cough. I took her to the doc Saturday who said if her respiratory rate increased to take her up to the hospital.
I did that Saturday night, they took a blood test (poor baby) and urine sample, both of which showed she had an infection. She was started on iv antibiotics and transferred to the paediatric (Aust spelling ) ward at 2am Sunday morning. The emergency and paediatric staff were fantastic - couldn't have asked for better care. She had a chest x-ray which I wasn't thrilled about but they needed to rule out pneumonia.
They said if she had been a bit older (ie. over 3 months) they might have been able to be a bit more conservative in her treatment. Even though she was 4 days off being 3 months old, they said the strict cutoff is there for a reason, in that babies under 3 months can seem to be quite well but can then go downhill quickly so they take extra precautions. The specialist said yesterday that he could see just from watching her back as she breathed, that something major was going on.
Anyway her temps have stayed down, she is feeding well, stopped vomiting - all in all she is almost back to her normal self (just has a cough).
Whoops that's a bit long sorry! Dh was able to work from home today because I was staying in hospital with layla and we don't have any relatives living closeby who could have helped with the boys and all our friends have young children of their own to look after .
AFM- I'm back from vacation- so back at work recovering from the stressful week of dealing with my parents! It was a beautiful up there (there is one pic on my facebook of our view) and the weather was awesome. And it was great spending the week with my lil guy!
Hoping I brought something else home too, on the countdown for that now.
Lenore, I'm glad that Layla is feeling better. Must have been scary to have her in the hospital.
AFM- I am so excited to have my baby shower this weekend! I have a friend from CA that will be flying in and I can't wait to see her. She is coming in on Thurs and I'm taking Fri off to spend the day with her. My shower is on Saturday and I think I'll have a pretty good turnout. I started my NST's last week and baby is doing fine. He is pretty uncooperative though. My first one took over an hour because he kept moving around. I can't believe I'll have a little baby in 6 weeks!
Lenore, glad little Layla is doing better! How's mama doing? I'm sure it was tough seeing her in there. Hoping she keeps improving.
Sam, glad you had a good trip! Sorry about dealing with the parents, sometimes it's tough. I'm sure CJ had a good time, and glad you did also. Hoping you brought something back as well. When will you know or be able to test?
AFM, I've been working more and more with Lila about following and tracking some toys and have seen her follow it a couple of times, so we are hoping and praying she's just a little behind in her smiles and facial expressions.
Otherwise we are doing well. Kids are enjoying summer and it's going way to fast. I'm hoping to get into our garden, but we have had lots of rain. It doesn't amount to much, but we get some every day it seems out of nowhere and than it's to wet to get into. Oh welll, we trudge on. I had a little bit of spotting last week, so I'm not sure what that really means. I'm still bf/ff (we do both, Andy calls her our hybrid ) so I'm not sure what my body is trying to do. Miss Lila is still up about 3 times a night and this mama is hoping to get a nap in this week.
Hope everyone is well!

Sorry i've been so MIA ladies...things have been crazy recently!
Lenore - how scary, glad Layla's doing better...Savannah had to get a chest x-ray when she was around 4 months old for suspected pneumonia and I wasn't thrilled about it either. But definitely better safe than sorry...hope she bounces back quickly!
Sam - wb!!!! glad vacation was fun and i'm keeping my fingers crossed for you this cycle!!!
Kimberley - hope you have a fabulous baby shower, have a great time!!! We definitely need pics from the celebration!
Mari - i hope you get your nap! KUP on how Lila's doing...working with her sounds like a great idea, and hopefully you'll see her quickly pick up the facial expressions/smiles.
AFM...moving, unpacking & associated unfortunate events with new house (like A/C breaking repeatedly & a tree coming down in storm over the 4th crashing into neighbor's yard, etc) has kept us crazy busy. Savannah now has 4 teeth (!!!) as of this morning AND (i'm so unreasonably proud of this ) has officially learned how to wave "hello" over the weekend and is now doing it every time she sees us...so flippin adorable! I'm going to try to catch her doing it on video, and if successful, will share...
Here's a couple recent pics since I haven't shared any in awhile:

I'm at cooking class this week, I am so excited to talk to adults!! DH is home for four days, then we have a sitter on Friday. Today I got to debone a chicken, showed me how to fillet a fish, and make amazing potato salad, and gave me a big knife! I've always wanted cooking classes, this is great!
So far, ten fingers!!
Glad baby is doing fine Kimberley. Enjoy your baby shower!
Mari so glad that Lila is tracking some toys . Hope you get a break in the rain to get out in your garden! I was very worried about Layla..whenever it gets to the point where I think I might need to take one of them to hospital I get pretty stressed, and especially because she is so young.
Gorgeous pics of Savannah Lara and how cute she is waving!
Yay for cooking classes marie - sounds like fun! I'd love to do something like that - maybe thai cooking classes mmmm.
AFM, Layla had a very bad night last night. A lot of coughing and waking a lot. She was running a temp again and with being so cranky I gave her some panadol at 4am and when she calmed down she slept for a few hours. I also put the humidifier on in her room which might have helped too. She woke up smilng this morning so I hope she is going to be on the mend soon!
In other news, I am so sick of the CLUTTER in my house. Everywhere I look there is clutter. I don't even know where to start with getting rid of it though! Anytime I clear the kitchen counter it only stays clear for a week before it becomes a dumping ground for miscellaenous things again. The computer desk is the same... i really WANT to be organised but I've never been an organised person - it's like my brain matches the cluttered house because i start organising one part of the house but then I get sidetracked elsewhere - agggh!!! I guess I just need to start in ONE spot, and not move until that's done completely??? (I tend to start in one spot, then take something to where it's supposed to be and then start tidying THAT spot!!!...see....disorganised!). Any tips???
Right, I'm off to start on the kitchen . Have a good day/night everyone!
Hi girls! I have to make this quick (have to get ready so I can take mom to yet another doctor appointment....two actually).
Lara, YAY for 4 teeth and waving hello!
Good Luck, Sam! Glad vacay went well.
Marie, cooking classes do sound like fun. Please keep all your appendages
Mari, I'm glad Lila's tracking some toys....keep up the good work with her. I hope you can get back in your garden very soon. Since you guys "survive" with your garden it's probably more important than other people that you have a thriving one.
Have fun at your shower Kimberley! So glad that your friend from CA is going to be able to make it....makes it extra special!
Lenore, I'm so happy that Layla is doing better. Now....as for your organization. I have "typically" been a very organized person, however, DH is not. So, I can see your frustration....I'll have something cleaned off (like the dining room table) and sure enough it becomes a dumping ground for EVERYTHING! Along with everywhere else in the house Here's a tip for you that I learned when we moved in together (two households into one is not easy)......choose a room (or a specific location) that you can use as "storage" while you are organizing another room. Try to take things that don't belong and put them in the room where they do belong (and DON'T GET SIDETRACKED) just "try" to put items where they belong. If you can't quite decide or figure out where something should go, if it's not important, then put it in your storage area. Once the regular areas are organized then start on your storage area. Stay on top of everything and "teach" DH and the kids (and yourself) that things need to be put where they belong the first time. I'm still working on DH....but he's getting better....the dining room table hasn't been a catch-all for quite some time now
AFM.....quite busy with mom. She needs to have back surgery, but the surgeons are very hesitant to do because of her liver/bleeding issue, so we have a consult with anesthiologist today....if he says no then no surgery, if he says yes, then it sounds like we will. We have an appointment at University of Washington Med Center on Tuesday to discuss liver tansplant options and to see if she's even eligible (I'm thinking she's not going to be). So, in a nutshell.....if no back surgery and no transplant my mom will get to spend the next 3-5 years she has left of her life in lots of pain.
Now, Miss Jaylen is doing great! She has two teeth and according to the doctor she saw the other day she's sitting more like an 8 month old........she looks like she's sitting like Savannah is in her pics and Jaylen's only a few weeks younger. She did give us quite a scare last Saturday.....she cried at 4am (which is very odd for her), I got up and fed Baha (normal for him) and when I was headed back to bed I heard her gasping for air! Her poor little nose was so stuffed up she was having trouble breathing. So I cleaned out her nose (which prompted very loud crying), fought with getting saline solution in her nose, calmed her down and put her in bed with us She's still really stuffy and playing with her ears (the reason she went to the doctor....I thought maybe she had a sinus and/or ear infection). She's fine, no infections, but is probably having a hard time teething her upper teeth. I wish I could teach her to blow her nose. It is "kinda" cute when she breathes thru her mouth.....because she looks like she's overemphasising it....but yet, I feel so bad for her.
Well, ended up waaaaay longer than I thought it would. Hope everyone is well. Love and Hugs to all!!
Thanks for the tips Jess! I'm trying to think of where I can have a little storage pile for things that need to find a place. But you're right, the main thing is not to get sidetracked! My kitchen looks fantastic at the moment and I always LOVE it when there's nothing on the benches so now the key is to keep it that way, and also, to not make somewhere else an alternate dumping ground!!
Hope the appts go okay with your Mom too Jess. It must be hard that she needs treatment for multiple things and even then, that they're not sure that she will get everything that she needs. She is lucky to have you there with her every step of the way. Hope Jaylen gets her teeth quickly. It is usually a tough time and I envy some of my friends who say their children teethe with no problems at all!
AFM, Have had a lovely day today. I took the boys to a new playground I'd heard about. it's on the bottom of a hill but they've built ramps and slides into the hill plus loads of different forts to play on and they all connect with wooden bridges etc. The boys played for 3 hours and still didn't want to come home! I brought food for a picnic but after 3hrs Layla had had enough, and I was ready to come home too because it's not a fenced area so I walked around the whole time to keep an eye on them. Oliver asked me on the way home if he could go to bed first tonight (he's the eldest), so I know they got a good run around!
Thanks to Meganpixel for my beautiful siggie!
