On Tuesday, I was in a store with Katie and my 19 year old goddaughter, Stephanie. This woman comes in and she starts saying "Oh, what a pretty girl. You look just like your mommy." Katie was being carried by Steph at the time and this woman thought Steph was her mommy. I said "Kate and her cousin Steph are both really pretty, but I am Kate's mom." The woman looks at me and says, "But you're too. . . um. . she is a beautiful child."
The hag-o-saurus stopped herself before she used the 'O' word. She was on the verge of saying I was too old to be the mother of a toddler but I suppose she saw the fire flash in my eyes and thought better of it. Ooh, some people! Oh, by the way, I am roughly 2 hours from being 40, so this was definitely not the week to even hint that I am getting old.

Happy birthday Beth! I'll focus on the nice part of what she said...Katie is very beautiful and at least she had the good sense to notice that even if it didn't extend to keeping her foot out of her mouth
