I have always wondered...how do you make syrup? I mean...it sure doesn't taste like the tree I ran into when I was four and took a corner too fast on my tricycle.... (ouch!) So...what do you add?
I remember snows like that when I was growing up. Never had to shovel the roof though. Where abouts are you at?
Dang. I'll get the hang of this yet! I just saw that you're from Canada! OK, what part? I was born in Vancouver, but haven't lived there since I was just a toddler...eh. (hehehe) Grew up in the south. I guess that makes me a southern yankee....
Your kids are beautiful, by the way. I meant to say that earlier but....well...the mind sometimes leaves the building without permission. Fortunately, it usually comes back. Usually.
You don't add anything to the sap but you do have to boil it for hours. You basically lose 75% to boil off before you get pure maple syrup.
and I live in Montreal.
I have Alzeimer moments too.
Thanks for the kid compliments. My elest daughter after I saw this is now on a diet. She got on the scale at 200 pounds which is a 40 pound gain since the fall. Yoikes ! ! ! This will have changed her eating habits from now on cause she is autistic and focus's on stuff. We need to focus away from food now. I am distressed over this.

Don't stress. She's happy and well cared for. That is what is important. My sister in law has a son who's autistic also. I've never met any of them (we've only been married a year) and am not really sure what to expect when they come down in May. I've never known anyone who was autistic or had someone in their family who was. Maybe you could tell me a little about her? (you can email me if you'd like.)
Anyway, such a beautiful family. Ya done good kid!
