Don't know how many of you remember Milosh from our DDC. He was born with a heart problem and received a heart transplant last summer (I think it was). He's had great checkups and everything, but he had a setback with one of his labs yesterday. He's in stage 3A rejection. Here's the post from his caring bridge page for today:

After waiting on pins and needles all day yesterday we received a phone call from his heart transplant coordinator to let us know that Milosh's biopsy results show that he is in stage 3A rejection. The scale goes from 1-4 with the higher number being the worst. He is in moderate rejection, however, since he went from 0 to 3 in just three months it is very serious. Had he not been seen by the doctors the day before, and had a good echo he would have been admitted to the hospital last night and started IV treatment. Instead, we are keeping him home, keeping a close eye on him for signs for heart failure and starting him back on steroids for 2 weeks and adding a 3rd immune suppression medicine called Cellcept. He will attend the transplant clinic this week and have another heart biopsy in two weeks time. We are remaining hopeful that Milosh will respond to the additional immune suppression meds. quickly and he will quit rejecting his angel heart. Of course driving down Milosh's immune system can become problematic especially during cold and flu season, but given the alternative there really is no other choice. We planned to semi-isolate ourselves this winter anyhow given that the first year after transplant can be the most precarious (as Milosh has often demonstrated for us).

These last few weeks we have remarked many times how fabulous Milosh has been doing. His physical therapist agrees he is stronger now than he has ever been. He is babbling and teething and happy. Thinking back on how he has been acting lately and the fact his body is starting to reject his heart makes his accomplishments of late even more amazing. If he is doing so awesome now, I can't wait to see what is in store for him and us once we get everything back on track. God has a plan for him, that much I know. I don't think he has come through everything he has just to return home to the Lord right now. The Lion Prince has overcome so many obstacles and one day very soon this will be just another bump in the road for Milosh. Continued thoughts and prayers will help get us through this difficult time. Thank you for you support, especially now.

Blessings,
Brie

Please send your prayers that one of our little love bugs pulls through!

Thanks for posting. Sad to hear, my thoughts and prayers are with Brie and her whole family. FWIW, there was another little girl I was following on carepages that was local and she had to have a lung transplant. She was almost gone when they received the call and she just recently turned 5, I believe. She has had an amazing childhood so far, but I was surprised to hear how short transplantee's lives end up being. I always thought when you got a new organ, that was it, you are cured. But that's not to say that it's not worth the time. This little girl has been in a rejection stage for several years and she just keeps fighting, so I hope Milosh does as well!!
