Do you ever shop Alone with the kids? Does it go over well? What are some tips for a smooth tantrum free experience?

Greyson is older, so he's not really a problem anymore, but I used to go shopping all the time while I was a nanny. I'm pretty strict, and I don't take any attitude, and I don't bribe. I expect good behavior and nothing less. Once they are used to me and understand that, I don't usually have any problems.

There are exceptions, like when they are sick of course they will be whiny, etc. If they ever did start to act up, I would just leave over and speak to them so only they could hear, and remind them what I expected in a stern voice. I would also tell them what would happen if they didn't stop that behavior (no coloring time after lunch and go straight to bed, etc).

I rarely got complete freak out moments, but if/when I did, I would either carry on as fast as I could and ignore them, or just drop everything and leave (if I was able to...i.e. clothes shopping, etc, I wouldn't do that while food shopping).

My kids are usually pretty good at the store. Make sure they are fed, had a nap, etc. We get the kid carts so they enjoy those. I tell them before we go in that if anybody acts up, they will not come shopping with me for at least 2 months. They know I am serious because I have had to do it before. I am the parent that refuses to leave the store because my child is acting up. They get what they want if that happens and I will be dammed. They also know that when we get to the bakery at the end of my shopping trip, they will get a cookie if they behaved.

I try to not have to take both kids when I do my grocery shopping, but I have done it a few times. My oldest one is pretty good while shopping, and my youngest I just make sure he is not over tired and has been fed prior to going.

I cant wait to take Drake grocery shopping and see how he is. All I know is that I am not going to buy him stuff just to shut him up if he is misbehaving. That just leads to disaster.

I make sure to take snacks...suckers are always good because they last longer. I also take something to drink and their blankets. I go after they've just slept so they're nice and happy and I stick to my list so I'm not wandering!

Leah always goes shopping with me and is usually very well-behaved. Our store sometimes has a basket of free lollipops at the customer service desk so I'd grab one at the start of our trip and she was as happy as could be. Leah also likes to ride in the carts that have a little car on the front, so she pretends she's driving or just looks around and talks about whatever we see.

Thats pretty much exactly how it goes for us. Its been a really long time since i've had an issue with jake in the grocery store! i think the hardest thing about bringing him is the constant chat! its hard to remember what i need or pay attention to budget, but its perfectly reasonable behaviour! What i do tho is if my mom isnt working, i drop him there and then go, its more fun for both of us and my mom loves having jake to herself!

Both of my kids have always been pretty well behaved on outings. However as with any child there have been a few times that they wanted to wear the big boy/girl britches lol Anytime that happens I stop my cart wherever we are and just watch them. Once they realize they're not going to get a reaction from me they stop. Then I ask them what they think they're going to accomplish with this behavior and what they think would have been more appropriate. Once we're finished with our conversation we go on about our business.

They've only ever decided to have a complete meltdown maybe once or twice each over the years and those times we just stopped what we were doing and left and they weren't allowed to go to the store again for a week. (When they were little we went to the store darn near daily lol)

I have NO tolerance for acting up in any kind of public situation..LOL normally the grocery trips go pretty good..they know i won't hesitate to give a swat on the butt in the middle of the store. I normally get the kids car to if i have both of them just makes it easier and less of them running around. If i just have Gavin i don't I make him walk and stay with me. It's something im trying to teach them both.
