How do you feel about being called a "housewife?"
Do you feel it conjours up a negative image of what you do?
What do you call yourself when people ask what you do?

Housewife sounds so "1950s". I love what I do, but it does have a negative connotation. I say I'm a SAHM.

I agree, I don't like the term. It makes me feel like I'm home to serve my husband and care for his home. Not take care of my family and our home.

When people ask what I do I tell them I'm a SAHM.

I don't have a feeling one way or another. The term doesn't bother me. When people ask, I tell them I'm a stay at home mom.

The term doesn't bother me, per se, but I don't really use it. It definitely does sound older fashioned. I usually say "I stay at home with my kiddo!". I'm not often asked that question, though.

I hate the title of housewife. for me is conjours up an image of a 1950s housewife, fluffing her hair before her husband comes home and having his slippers warming by the fire. I'm all for taking care of my husband, but i'm not anyones maid.

I also hate the term Homemaker. You know on those forms where they want to know your occupation? my most recent was car insurance and it really irked me. i think thats worse than housewife!

I like the term stay at home mom. I'm a mother first and foremost.
