For you Mammas with little babies;

When do they go to sleep?

I ask because I let Drake go to sleep when HE is ready for the night. He is a GREAT sleeper, he sleeps 10 hours a night or a little less with one waking to eat. Its so great, the ONLY problem is that I cant sleep but thats besides the point. He goes to bed VERY early, and no matter what I do he will not go to sleep any later. He will cry and cry and CRY, and I mean he is only 4 months old so there is only so much I can do. Like, tonight, he went to bed at 6pm...he was exhausted! I really think he is growing, but this whole week he has been going to bed earlier and earlier and earlier.

Is anyone else's baby doing this? Is this normal? Have you experienced this before if your baby is older? Is there anything I can do to keep him up a little longer?

Things I have done:
Bath time (he then falls asleep right after)
Playing (he falls asleep during)
Walks (he falls asleep and or starts to fuss because he wants to sleep)

He is completely healthy. Eats GREAT, everything is great! He is a little happy boy all day, but when he is sleepy he IS SLEEPY...I want him to sleep, I KNOW he needs it, but bed time at 6pm? lol

6pm is a very normal bedtime hun. My 4.5 year old goes to bed at 7.30, but up until he was about 2 he would go at 6.30. They are growing so fast and their natural rhythm is to be awake during the day to learn and sleep at night to grow. Theres nothing you can do pet, you just gotta roll with it! but i do think that most babies and small children have a similar bedtime. Is there a particular reason why you want to keep him up a little later?

We start harrys bedtime at 7.30 and he is usually in bed asleep by 8pm. He sleeps right through till 5.30am most nights, and then he is up for the day. It sucks that he is up and ready to play so early, but thats the way he rolls!!
At around 6 months old the naps become longer and less frequent and they sleep longer at night (or so i'm told!) so i'm hoping it'll kick in soon! we have alot of power naps during the day, but no one stretch where i can actually do something, so i'm looking forward to that.

6pm is very early for him, thats why I ask. He used to go to bed around 10ish, but then it slowly got earlier and earlier. I guess if I went to bed at that same time it would be ok, but here it is, 5am and I have YET to be to bed. Drake will be getting up within the hour and I will be exhausted at like noon. I am just NOT a day person. Before I had him I would sleep all day and be up all night, and I am STILL like that. I will be tired ALLLLL day, then once the sun goes down its like I get this burst of energy! I dont get it! I guess I wanted him to stay up a little later so I can sleep too, but that just does not happen.

When mine were babies they would be in bed between 6 and 7. My question is, why the heck are you not in bed when he gets up at 5am!? Girl, you need to learn to pass out at 10pm!

Kayley went to bed between 6-7 when she was a baby too. If your baby is reaching new milestones through the day or if his mind is stimulated more (which happens as they get a little bigger) it can make the little guy fall asleep earlier. Things change constantly with little ones so hang in there! Everything is probably normal. Eventually he will sleep 11-12 hours when he gets a little older...you'll love that!

Kayley goes to bed at 8:00 now and she's 5. She usually gets like 11 hours of sleep.

I'm not much help sorry! Eve runs the roost around here...

We have tried and tried to get a night time routine going but it has failed. It worked for about a week but then teething came in! Then I think a 3-month growth spurt...

We used to try have her in bed for the night at 9pm (10pm at latest) and she would sleep until 9am (sometimes 11am!) the next morning. Of course we had night feeding between those hours (she wakes every 2 hours...), but at least she was sleep-feeding so not even really awake. Me either LOL!

I'm not sure why he has started to sleep earlier as you know Eve is my 1st, but I think all the PP's comments seem about right! Maybe Drake is taking in sooo much more and learning so much more each day that he tires out sooner!

As for your sleeping problems, I hope it is not insomnia. I'm not sure what the doctors suggest for helping that problem, but I hope you start to sleep soon.

Before Eve, I was like you! Sleep during the day & up at night. I still snap into energy mode around 10pm lol. Ughhhhh...

I'm sorry hun, i hope you are able to reset your clock quickly! Its hard to get used to having something so small dictate your whole life!

I dont think this is what you are looking for, but there are a few baby training books that tell you how to get the baby to sleep etc on your terms. They arent the most gentle of methods imo tho.

Girl! Tell me about it! I go to bed almost every single night around that time but I lay in bed for HOURS and end. Like last night, I went to bed at 8pm, got like an hour, then was up until 7am...and Drake woke at 9am. Im just not tired and it sucks!

The good thing is that, Drake is so easy so my days are very joyful and non stressful. I dont know. Maybe one day my body will be like SLEEP!!!

keep going to bed at around ten and eventually you will adjust hun. if you have been sleeping all day and awake all night it will take a while to adjust. Keep at it! you need your rest!

I only sleep like 2 hours a day, if that. I hope tonight I am exhausted! I only slept 3 hours this morning and I plan to stay up all day today.

I agree with what Robyn said! Go to bed at 10pm each night regardless of whether you are sleepy or not and hopefully that turns things around

When Drake was 1st born, did you sleep at nights?

No. I was up every 2 hours nursing so I like NEVER slept. Sleeping all night for him did not start until around 2 months.

He went to bed at 6:30pm tonight, I am still awake and took ZERO naps today. DH and I plan to go to bed at 10pm and I have my fingers crossed I get some sleep.

I will have to update in the morning how my night went.
