So I was looking into tutoring for Elyse....and I contacted a local place and they want 200 up front just for testing...UHH WHAT?!! Then of course whatever hourly/weekly/monthly pay they have after that, which by the way they didn't even tell me the price of that after I asked what their prices were! Then asking me if I want to set up a time this week for the testing, why would I base my decision off of that? You can't even tell me what it would cost after that? I personally think 200 is way too much just for "testing" do not think that place is the place to go. I also contacted Sylvan, which is probably really expensive, but they have no pricing on the website and I got a call and they tried to connect me through but it was just busy! GAH!

I contacted Sylvan for Math here. Since moving Lily had a hard time with it, they are not on the same level here as here old school and much harder for her. Sylvan was 50.00 for the test and 35 p/hr. I thought that was pricey. I decided to go through the school, It's 50.00 for the month and they have a teacher work with her every Wednesday for an hour. Did you check with the school?

I know I was shocked, do you have kumon there? I think the testing was free when we lived in MA and it was like 190 a month for a 2 hr session each week. Check out kumon.com

I hope you find something more reasonable, maybe a college student?? My SIL used to meet a college student at barnes and noble to be tutored.

That does sound pricey! I also think it sounds a little fishy that they would only give you the cost of testing and not the actual tutoring at the one place. I'd definitely check with the school. If they don't have tutoring at the school, they might at least have some good recommendations.

I dont have school aged kids yet but i second the college student. Maybe have her tested at a professional place and then have a college student tutor her in the areas that are needed.

Shes already been tested for things so I do not want to go through the testing....they did that through her school...but never said anything about tutors? I am actually waiting for a meeting with her teacher to be set up about those tests....and I can ask them then

We looked into sylvan a few years back and all together it was going to cost $2000, crazy IMO! What I suggest is talking to your teacher and asking her if she or anyone she knows is tutoring, a lot of teachers do it for free - our school has several teachers who stay late 1 or 2 days a week to tutor a group of kids. But if that isn't an option some teachers offer after school or weekend tutoring and it's generally way cheaper than anything you'd get elsewhere. I actually have a teacher friend who is doing that very thing for extra money! A college student is also a good option.

That is a lot. what about even a grade 12 or 11 student? I tutored math in high school. I would put a poster up at the school or on craigslist.
