Do you think it's tacky to return a gift that your child received, if they didn't like it?

no.....that's why I always include gift receipts with anything I buy for anyone or their kids...so they can return it and get something else if they want

We once returned a gift just because it wasn't something we wanted in the house (we don't "do" noisy toys). However, the money was put back on the giver's credit card and I was slightly embarrassed.

We probaly should have just re-gifted or donated it to Toys for Tots or something...

I do think that kids should learn to be thankful no matter what they get. If they don't like the item then they can always donate it to someone else. Could be a good lesson there.

I don't think it is tacky. I am not one to return gifts unless it was clothing and did not fit. I would pass it on to someone else. Most people ask me what she needs/wants when buying her gifts.

No we have rules on what is ok for our kids...we dont allow them weapons like guns, knives or anything that shoots thing because we dont want the inside of our home to be broken with flying objects, lol. People know our rules...we also dont do play dough or any small crafts like beads or sequins for oldest dd and nothing as far as make up for her either. People still always get them these kind of these every birthday/ christmas/ holiday. I turn around and resell them on the fb selling sites if there is no receipt included. We have rules for a reason and I think its more tacky and rude for people not to follow them. There are sooo many other things that we approve of for our kids but they (the grandparents) insist on getting things on our NO list.

Not at all, if it's something they don't like then it seems kind of silly to keep it. I always send a gift receipt with gifts in case they don't like or in case they got 2. Happened at a birthday party we went to and at my oldest sons birthday, but when kids are into one particular thing it's bound to happen lol.
