I was diagnosed with SCH at 5 weeks 5 days and have been bleeding for over a week with bright red blood and cramps off and on. I have had 3 other pregnancies all end in preterm deliveries. But never had any problems before delivery, but with my 4th one its all new. The only thing we did different is we did IVF this time due to a tubal ligation. Does anyone know if you are at higher risk for SCH when doing IVF?

It's nice to see this addressed on JM. I joined an online support group on another site when I was dealing with mine and it helped me tremendously to see all the success stories. I bled every day from 6-13 weeks and then it just cleared up and the rest of my pregnancy was smooth sailing. I now have a healthy, active 8 month old.

Hi all, Glad to have found this thread. I am 28 and almost 13 wks pregnant. I had a early miscarriage late last year so was already nervous about this pregnancy; having an SCH now is adding to it, but I'm trying to stay positive! I had some brown spotting and mild cramping in my 5th wk or so, so scheduled an appt for Monday. Monday, I started having really painful cramps and then started to bleed a lot actually as I was in the elevator to the doctor's office. I went to the bathroom and felt something pass; I thought I'd miscarried. The doctor said it could be a SCH, but she didnt' want to give me hope because of the amount of blood. I had an ultrasound two days later and they saw a heartbeat!! Since then, I've had several other 'gushes' with some small clots (I guess that's what I felt 'pass' at the doctor's office). I went to the doctor several other times after big bleeds but they always saw a heartbeat. Two days ago I woke up and felt myself bleeding, went to the bathroom and passed something big. I was so worried it was my baby, I asked my husband to get a wooden spoon and see if he could find anything in the toilet. It looked like a big clot but I wasn't sure, and didnt' want to look to close, so we brought it to the doctor's office. They heard a heartbeat on Doppler and said it was just a large clot, didn't do an ultrasound.

The thing that has bothered me the most is the lack of clear guidance on what to do about a SCH- my OB/GYN is a group practice, so every doctor is a little different, but regardless, they dont' give a lot of info about SCH even when I ask. It's only after I ask about what do do/ avoid that they mentioned pelvic rest, though several have said no matter what I do it wont' change the odds/ risk of miscarriage (ie- I can't do anything to prevent it, but nothing I can do can cause it, either). I mean, I guess that's somewhat comforting? But also frustrating to feel helpless. They've also said that even though I can't cause a miscarriage, some things- like sex or lots of activity- can cause more bleeding, which can just confuse things further, so it's better to avoid. They've also pretty much said that SCH's can vary in size, getting bigger or smaller, so at the last appt, for example, the doctor said it wasn't worth doing an ultrasound to look because he'd heard the baby's heartbeat, and that's the most important information he needs, and an u/s won't provide anything else.

Sooo, that's my story thus far. Will try to post as I progress- I hope to be posting in late October after giving birth to a healthy full term baby :-).

One week ago I was taken to the hospital after severe bleeding and diagnosed with this subchorionic hematoma. I am 13 weeks pregnant as of yesterday. Last night I came back to the hospital because it felt like my water had broken?? Just waiting for my ultrasound and trying to remain positive and calm! I had a text book pregnancy with my first child and now this! I'm terrified! Anybody experience a more watery than frank blood discharge at all?

So in everyone's experiences with SCH, do they just keep releasing when they build up? It's so frightening.. Mine has 'released' 3 times now. 😔

Hey everyone - I am about 8 weeks pregnant, and have been spotting since week 5, and bleeding with clotting since last week. It's terrifying.

I went to the doc for it last week - and had an ultrasound that showed a happy baby with a nice strong heart beat... the doc said it's possible that I have SCH.

Today at work, I started having moderate cramping. I called the doctor's office and the nurse said I def. have SCH (why didn't the doc know that or tell me that I did?) and said it's small (1.4x1.3cm) and that it's normal to be cramping at this point in pregnancy. The clots I'm passing are getting larger and more frequent and my cramping has gotten more severe this evening.

I asked the nurse how long this bleeding is going to last... she said some people last for a couple weeks, some bleed throughout their whole pregnancy. I feel like I'm getting the shoveoff... she said (in so many words) that even if it is causing something bad, like a m/c, that there's nothing that can be done about it anyway). I feel like I need some reassurance.... especially with these awful cramps.

So glad I've found this blog. Good luck to us ALL!

Hello I am 7 wks and 4 days and I have been spotting, bleeding, cramping (front and back) and scared since 6wks and 6 days. This is my 3rd pregnancy with my 3rd child and my husband and I really want this baby. My 1st to preg were great. Not one problem. I have PCOS so i was on metformin for the 1st trimester of those. This one was a surprise and I do not have health insurance so I was not on Met . I don't know if I have a SCH but I am thinking that what is going on with me sounds a lot like what you all are describing. I have been to the ER twice first time they did an us and said everything looked fine with baby and we saw a strong heart beat. 2nd time they only did a pelvic but told me my cervix was still closed. Also checked my hcg levels and said they were low 6,700 and not doubling yet still going up. I can't get into the clinic until 3 wks b/c they keep saying I am fine and they don't need me to come in until then. However I don't feel fine. Still bleeding red blood with clots and still having bad cramping. Not worse than pms but because I have pcos my pms cramps are bad. I don't know if I have SCH but I kind of hope I do just to have some ans as to what is going on. I have been taking it easy and staying in bed as much as I can (I have 7 and 4 yr old) and also drinking lots of water. But I was wondering if heat helps????

Thanks

Hi, I am 8 wks pregnant with my 3rd, and just found out I have SCH and a cyst on my rt ovary. The first time I started bleeding, I freaked out. My ob/gyn told me my baby is fine with hr of 134. I am still lightly bleeding and sometimes with cramps. I thought I was alone, and knowing that there is someone out there with same condition, and readind there stories makes me stronger. God is good and I know that all of us will be okay. Good luck to you all. Will keep posted.

Hello!
I was 16 weeks pregnant and I started bleeding very heavily. Went to the ER and docs said I was having a miscarriage. When I went to my ob she told me different the next morning. She scheduled me for an ultrasound at a specialist and when I went they diagnosed me with a retro chorionic hemorrhage which is the same thing just a different spot. I had 9cm x 11cm clot. They told me I had about 50% chance that my pregnancy would end itself because of the clot and nothing I did would prevent it. I continued with everyday life hoping for the best but expecting the worst... The clot never fully went away, but I have a beautiful healthy daughter that is now two! When I have birth my doc showed me where the clot was on the placenta mine was in between placenta and uterus). My doc told me she didn't think I would get that far and have a successful pregnancy! I also had placenta prvia during this pregnancy which corrected itself and everything turned out just fine! So best wishes to everyone that got this diagnosis! I hope you and your child the best!

Im only 5 weeks in and Ive spotted as well as having a steady flow blood. Ive been having alot cramping (especially my back) I was really affraid. I went to the emergency room after seeing my physician, the attending physician ran allt he testz he possibly could but I left with no answers and just a referral to see my OBGYN. My apointment is for first thing tomorrow morning. This is the first Ive heard of SCH. I pray this is the diagnoses. Oh and this is my fifth pregnancy. Never had complications.

This is my 3rd pregnancy. I am 29. I am now 6w5d. I have a SCH about 1cm and my baby only measures .04cm. I have not had any bleeding at all. Simply severe cramps and pain. I had a stat ultrasound 3 days ago.

I had a SCH with my 2nd pregnancy and my doctor put me on bed rest and the whole 9 yards. She ended up being a beautiful 6lb13oz full term baby.

This OB acted like it was no big deal. Not really sure what to think. The pain is incredible. No bleeding. My mom says I should find a new OB and get a 2nd opinion.

Not really sure what to do. Personally I am taking it super easy (though kind of hard with a very mommy orientated 3 year old). Lots of lounging around and minimal lifting or anything.
