Hi. I am 33 years old and 14w5d pregnant with my 5th baby. I found out I was pregnant after 6 weeks because I started passing large blood clots and had a normal period two weeks earlier. After having my first ultrasound I found out that I have SCH, I have been monitored over the 8 weeks and the clot has not changed despite the heavy bleeding I have experienced and blood clots I have passed. Several times I thought I had miscarried. And each time the heart beat is strong and the baby is hanging on. This past Monday I went in for another ultrasound after having some heavy bleeding over the weekend. It had been 2 weeks since my last ultrasound and the blood clot still was present and didn't get any smaller. However, the amniotic fluid around the baby decreased quite a bit, so I was sent to have a level 2 ultrasound. Today, I had the ultrasound but it was not a level 2 because I need to be further along for that but I did see the specialist at the office and she basically said this pregnancy probably won't make it. But after asking all of our questions she did leave us with some hope because the baby continues to grow according to my dates and the heart beat is still good. The amniotic fluid is still low which is concerning. And to add to the chaos I had 4 previous c-section and the placenta looks like it is attached to where my scar is so I have to worry about placenta acreta. I was informed that however this pregnancy goes I may lose my uterus and never be able to have another baby. I have to worry about hemorrhaging is things just rip loose. I am so scared, I have 4 boys who need me and a growing baby who I would love to meet and raise in my family. At first the specialist was saying that we need to decided whethernto end this now or see if it ends on it's own within the next 4 weeks. But I am not comfortable ending a baby who has a strong heart beat. But am I being selfish because something can happen to me and I don't want my boys not to have a mother. Anyone experience anything like this? Thanks for reading

Just wanted to share my story because I remember in th beginning of this pregnancy reading all of these comments was my lifeline. This is my 2nd pregnancy, 1st was a breeze and no problems! I saw this baby at 8 wk 2 days and 5 days later started gushing blood everywhere. I was certain I was losing the baby. To my surprise the baby was doing just fine when we arrived at the ER. I was then diagnosed with sch. It was rather large. 5 cm x 4x 3cm. I continued to bleed at least every week and was put on bed rest from 11 weeks to 14 wks. The bleeding stopped after about 15 weeks and wet from bright red to dark brown. I have been seeing my Obgyn and a specialist regularly. My clot didn't resolve or get reabsorb until I was 24 wks. And no signs of it since! I am almost 29 weeks however I have a new concern these days. My cervix has shortened significantly an is only 1.7 cm in size. So I am at risk for preterm labor. But this story is to give hope because I have made it this far and my little girl has an excellent chance of survival! Stay strong ladies and best luck to all!

I am just 5 w5d along. Monday I went into the ER with light bleeding and cramping. They did and US and the ER doc came back and said "there's blood around the gestational sac. it's the beginning of a miscarriage. Go home and wait."

That was it.

I was devastated. I have cried for days. But here I am on Thursday, still light spotting and cramping by no mc. Then I found this site and find out what this really is and that it may not mean a mc. I'm not sure how to feel. I'm afraid to hope. I've accepted the loss of my baby and yet now there may be a chance.

I'm going to the dr tomorrow for second US and hopefully more information. I'm glad to know I'm not alone.

I to am experiencing a SCH bleed the clot is pretty large I was told at 8 weeks that I was pregnant and unfortunately didnt know I was pregnant. I found out the night I went to the ER from abdominal pain and bleeding. From which I thought was an onset of my menstral cycle. I am now 11 weeks but feel like I am more than that. I don't know if it's from the clot or what. Still bleeding and havent stopped. Have passed three large blood clots and the baby is still doing fine. I can only say this will be a long pregnancy but at the same time turn out to be a blessing. I think I might check back again in March to given you guys an update. Working in the medical field I wish I could start a research on this condition.

I have a diagnosed SCH. I am 9wks 3 days. We found out immediately when we became pregnant because we had done a cycle of clomid and were monitoring ovulation.

Initially I went in at 5 wks due to left groin pain. They did a transvaginal sono to rule out an ectopic pregnancy. They couldnt see much that early on and had me come back in at 6wks. Able to see the heartbeat and rule out an ectopic pregnancy but saw the SCH. Went back at 7 wks and they thought the SCH had absorbed but once they did the transvaginal sono they could see it hadnt. At 9 wks the SCH is still present. I have had 1 episode of brown mucous when wiping at 5wks and 1 episode of pink mucous when wiping at 7wks. The SCH is located at the fondus but I do not know the exact size.

One thing that I would ask is that a transvaginal sono be done in addition to the abdominal sono. They are uncomfortable but they are able to see more and would have not identified my SCH had they just done an abdominal sono.

Hi my name is Amber. Im 13 weeks pregnate. I have sch. Its large and i've had 2 major bleeds. I found out at the end of my second month. I have bled everyday since I found out. I've done alot of homework trying to figure this all out. Also have read alot of stories, but can't seem to find much positive news for any of it. I know if I had a small clot things would look alot better for the baby and I. Everyone I seem to read about that has large hemrrohrage has not had very good outcomes... I've took all the advice I have rad and my doctors and decided to put myself off from everything possiable. Im high risk before I found this out so it makes things even worse... So if theres anyone out there that has a good story for a large clot please share... Im so scared I just need something good to go from.... To all the ladies goin through this my heart goes out to you and your families. I dont think that whatever size ur sch is its the scaries thing ever to deal with...good luck to everyone.

Hi everyone. I am 19 weeks pregnant. At 13 weeks, I developed a SCH. I had a few days of bleeding, then brown spotting for almost five weeks. About five days ago, I had a re-bleed. I have bled moderately and red ever since. My doctor says the size is 3.4 by 1.4 cm. Has anyone else here had a re-bleed? How long did most of you bleed "heavily?" I feel like I am driving my doctor's office nuts with questions, so I thought I would ask those who are also experiencing this. I am currently on bed rest (able to get up for bathroom/snacks/etc.) and feel like I am going crazy. What have all your experiences been like? Thanks, ladies.

Hi everyone:
Last May(2010) we were excited to know that I was expecting again, baby #3, after 8 months of trying. Unfortunately I was cramping a lot, thinking it was just my uterus stretching and not wanting to be panicky about it, I let it go. But then June 30 I had suddenly started to bleed excessively at 13 weeks. I was told I was probably having a miscarriage as there was too much blood for a baby to survive, after doing an ultrasound, the doctors seen that our baby was moving around a lot. After a closer look on the Ultrasound they found I had a Blood Clot of 15cmx7cmx8cm. The doctors put me on strict bed rest for the remainder of the pregnancy. We prayed that the Lord would save our baby. After a long summer of bleeding, spotting, and cramping, we made it to 31 weeks and 1 day at which I started active labour and my water broke, at this point my clot had only shrunk to 8cm, usually by this time the clot should have completely dissolved we were told. Because our baby was breach, she was delivered via emergency c-section, weighing in at 3lbs12oz. Thankfully I was already in the hospital for a week being monitored due to severe cramping, and our OB started giving me Steroid injections for our baby's lungs. Our little girl was able to come home safely after 6 weeks in the NICU. We are so thankful to say that at 4months (2months corrected) she weighs 12lbs 1oz and is doing very well. So there is hope, I feel for anyone who is going through this, it is very hard mentally and physically. I pray the Lord will carry you through as He has for us. I remember when we went through it, there were not too many positive stories for those who experienced very large blood clots. So I hope this helps with giving hope. I honestly think the bed rest and prayer is what saved our baby. I did not do anything except for occasionally a few dishes and a couple loads of laundry. My husband did all the heavy lifting and our church family cooked for us most of the time.

Hi I am currently 35 weeks pregnant with my first baby. At 14weeks 6days I started bleeding very heavily with bright red blood and was diagnosed with a subchronionic hemmorhage measuring 8cm x 6cm x 3cm. I was so scared at the time and felt that there was no way my baby could survive all this trauma especially as I continued to bleed for around 6 weeks. I was scanned by my doctors about once a week over this period and every scan showed that my baby was happy and healthy. I didn't want to get my hopes up though so I didn't go out buying any baby clothes or start thinking of names. I have now been told that my baby and pregnancy are progressing as normal and I have no side effects of my previous problems. Everything is going great and my baby boy is due to arrive in 5 weeks. I just want people out there who are finding themselves facing this problem that there is light at the end of the tunnel

I think that I am experiencing this also. I have 3 boys, and my last 2 pregnancies I had this. The first one I had no bleeding, but they saw this SCH on my u/s and needed to watch it closely. He was born at 39 weeks and 5 days at over 9 lbs. My second one, I started bleeding at 10.5 weeks and suddenly. I thought I was m/c and when I went to dr., everything was fine. Anyway, I had a m/c in between, and now tested positive with my 4th. I am 5 weeks and 3 days. I started spotting at exactly 5 weeks, so am experiencing either implantation bleeding or SCH. I have no cramping, just some slight back pain with spotting that seems to be very light and varies from light brown to dark brown. I am keeping my fingers crossed I will call the doctor this week! Good luck to everyone. These things can work out...Sometimes technology and knowing too much works against us and makes the wait unbearable!

Hello All: I am writing my story because I have spent every day for 6 months looking for hope from other people's experiences. So, now that I am blessed with a healthy baby boy, it is my turn to be thankful and keep the thread of hope alive for all of you.
After an early miscarriage, I was pregnant again and felt relieved after the first trimester passed without any event and finally felt happy enough to share the news with the world. But, right around 13 weeks, I started bleeding profusely one night and at the ER everyone, everyone except an elderly nurse, thought a miscarriage was imminent. The ultrasound showed, to everyone's surprise, the baby was moving fine, but I continued to bleed heavily - enough that they had to change my clothes and bed sheets despite I was wearing an over-night pad. We were asked to spend the entire night at the ER as they were still sure that I was about to have a miscarriage and late miscarriage would imply blood loss. By next morning the bleeding slowed, but was still there and the next ultrasound also showed that the baby was ok. That elderly nurse (I still believe she was my angel) told me that many years ago she had the same thing, everyone thought she didn't have the baby anymore. and 9 months later she had a healthy baby boy who now has his own kids. Her story gave me the ray of hope I desperately needed. Our doctor said this was SCH, explained that nothing we could do, just go about with our lives. Next day bleeding stopped after becoming brown, but came back the very next day. I and my husband were devastated.

At that point we tried to get an appointment with a specialist and I just managed to get a one-time appointment as he was full. After they did my ultrasound, he and his group found my case to be so serious, rare and academically interesting, that they took me in. Apparently I had one of the largest clots they had seen, and its shape was also unusual. I kept bleeding everyday, somedays bright red overflowing my clothes, other days dark brown. Worst were those days when I would not bleed at all for a day or two, and then the blood will come back.

Subdequesnt weekly visits, weeks 14-20 showed no improvements of the clot. This doctor had put me in strict bed rest - I was even scared to sneeze or laugh. He explained that scientifically there is no proof that bed rest makes a difference, but this was his opinion. It gave me some control over the situation, I could make sure that I don't move unless I was going to the bathroom.

The doctor explained that we were reaching a point where the baby was growing enough such that if the clot didn't dissolve, the clot would break the sack and the baby would not survive even if he was growing perfectly. In the mean time we have been visiting ER on days when I would bleed too much. And then came the 22nd week, and first sign that the clot was much smaller from 2 weeks ago. And by 24th week, it disappeared!

Despite all the other concerns about placenta privia, premature delivery, etc over the next 3 months, I went full term and delivered our first child.

So, whoever is reading my post out there, hang on to hope. Just be hopeful and optimistic - the body does wonders sometimes. I wish you the very best.

I am almost 13 weeks pregnant with our 3rd child. We have been blessed with two very easy and uncomplicated pregnancies. At 6 weeks I started a large amount of bleeding. The next day my midwife diagnosised it via ultrasound that I had a hematoma. Ever since I have had on/off bleeding, continous dark brown spotting and have been watched by an ultrasound every two weeks. I continue to pray that this just disappears as I have read by so many. The bleeding is scary.

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and found out I have sch my 11 th week. Ive had bleeding since before i found out. Heavy, light, bright red and brown. I recently went to the hospital because I lost a huge blood clot the size of a small steak ( sorry if tmi). This is my third pregnancy. I also have an appointment with a maternal and fetal specialist due to suspected low amniotic fluid. The baby seems fine but this whole thing is so very scary. Does anyone have any advice? I was told my sch is at bottom of cervix so i will most likely bleed my whole pregnancy.

I would like to thank you for sharing your story.
I too am experiencing an SCH with a similar back story.
Hope is all I have right now and coming across stories like yours only gives me more, and for that I thank you.
Congratulations on your first child it is truly an amazing experience.
I wish you nothing but the best for you and yours.

Kindest Regards,
Stephanie
