I agree that it's important to get young kids used to being around other kids their age. I think it teaches them how to interact with others, so there isn't a big shock when they start school.

I am dealing with this issue with my 5 year old daughter. We are not pushy, but encourage her to talk to other kids. We make her speak when she is spoken to and explain that this is using good manners.

To help her with kindergarten for the first couple of weeks of school, I met her for lunch and recess and introduced her to some friends, and teachers aides. She is doing much better already!
