Does anyone on here have experience with an infant with a Hiatal Hernia? Or has your infant undergone surgery for this?

Here is a little background so you can understand what I need:

A friend of mine has a 4 month old daughter. When the baby was 2 1/2 months old she took her to the doctor. The doctor told the mother that the baby was not gaining enough weight and needed some testing. The baby had a Upper Endoscopy done which supposedly showed that she had a Hiatal Hernia.

The doctor told the mother that the baby needed surgery. The mother did not want to have it done and told the doctor so. He told her that it was Medically Nessecary and if she didn't consent he would report her to the state for negligence. Now she is a single mother of 4 and is on state aid. She isn't able to go to any doctor she wants plus she lives in a very rural area with few doctors to choose from.

She consented to the surgery. This was mid February. Now it is mid-April the baby is being fed through a feeding tube and has been since the surgery. They have the baby on the highest allowable dosage of Nexium allowed for her. The baby recently has a second Upper Endoscopy which showed that the surgery didn't work. How can this be possible?

The baby refuses to drink whether by breast-feeding or bottle. The doctor told her if was because the baby's throat still hurts from surgery plus the acid reflux. How can the baby's throat hurt from this surgery that was 2 months ago?

I would appreciate any experiences or advice that you can give. Thank you in advance for reading this long post and helping!!
