Most babies learn to sit up on their own sometime between age 6 and 8 months. Sitting up requires a lot of upper body strength and coordination. Once your baby’s neck and back muscles are strong enough, sometime around 3-6 months, he will be able to roll over by himself and sit up with some support from mom.

i dont understand why would you put baby in sitting position before time... to teach them to sit?? is there any hurry...so they need OUR help...all this support with pillows and things... do you really think thats needed.. im not sure i would put my baby in the sitting position before it will learn on its own to sit ... i think babies have there own clock... nature takes care and babies are not stupid... maybe im wrong but thats how its seems to me..

I agree, whats the rush ? First of all, baby's spine is too weak for sitting up before its time and all this propping may result in a pinched nerve(happened to my friend). and besides, i enjoy the fact that she is a baby, once she stats sitting it will be a new stage, so i let her be what she is right now and enjoy whay she can do at this age.

I found that both my boys from around 2 months old were both often much happier when supported in a more upright position using pillows etc. Their growing interest in the world around them meant they could see more if seated more upright. I agree that babies are not stupid but they do need help and encourgement and when my boys stop crying and fussing when I position them more upright I think its a good indication that they wanted to try it.

My baby is now 6 months old. She is sitting now but have to support her. I'm not in a rush to sit on her because I know that they are different from each other. I support her sitting up until she can by herself.
