yes and I think it was cytotec but it might have been cervadil. It was by far the worst part of my induction...it's just supposed to help you dilate but in my case it started really hard & long contractions that (irony!) were incredibly unproductive for 12 hours....they weren't too painful until they broke my water, and then they were unbearable. They'd literally go off the monitor for a minute before they'd come back down on the tracker....while I'm going to try to avoid being induced in future, I would be willing to do pitocin again but I'm absolutely refusing cervical softeners after my experience.

No, I didn't get anything. I don't know if my doctor doesn't typically use them or if they thought my cervix was ready enough. I don't remember how effaced I was with my son, but I think it was 70%, so maybe that's why I didn't have anything but pitocin.

When I was told I was going to be induced no later then 40 weeks per my MEDwife...

We talked about cervix ripeners and I flat out refused Cytotec... my MW said they don't use that med in their practice so I was safe... she told me they would first start out with a transvaginal catheter and if that didn't see to get things rolling would go next to cervidil...

I was thankful and ended up with my water breaking 2 weeks early and I think with all the EPO I was taking (3-4000mg) a day, it had actually did it job when it came to preparing my cervix... I never ended up with a ripener... just Pit

I was loaded up on EPO too and at 37w I wasn't even 1% effaced

I did eventually end up consenting to cytotec even though it's something I said I would "never" do, but the hospital didn't have cervadil, nor did the other midwifery hospital in town (I was going to transfer my care ) and I really discussed it a lotttt and I called a dear friend who is a midwife in 4 more births, and she agreed it was much safer for my cervix to be favorable for induction than to go straight to pitocin. I was fortunate not to have any side effects from the cytotec. My uterus is still in tact!

My water broke just before 2am and I was the hospital about 630ish... When I was checked the MW said I was 70% effaced by 1cm dilated... so I think the EPO worked for me...

And I must say Brylie looks soooo much like you Chels... she is adorable!

I feel the same way...cytotec was awful and I hadn't anticipated needing much because I was 2 1/2 cm dilated & 80% effaced when I came in for my induction...but the cervical ripener did nothing other than almost send me in for a c-section. The irony was that they held off giving me the pitocin an additional 6 hours (so about 13 hours total with cytotec only) because the effect of the cytotec was so severe from a contraction perspective (although entirely unproductive, I only ever dilated 1 more cm with it) but once they did give me the pitocin I progressed rapidly and Savannah was born 3 1/2 hours after the pitocin was administered...the nurse afterwards told me they wished they had done the pitocin earlier but didn't expect me to respond well to it given the issues with the cytotec.

No, thank God. They were going to do cervadil but since I was having regular contractions on my own and was already dilated to 2, they decided against it. I really don't think I would have liked that, and had a bad feeling about it. They just went right to pitocin to speed things along, which worked, and I responded to it much faster than they had anticipated.

I had cervadil for 12 hours. It produced contractions that made it impossible to sleep, but they didn't DO anything. I didn't even get any effacement out of it. In retrospect, I shouldn't have let them start the pit. I should have insisted on more cervadil first. Because if my cervix wasn't even thinning - much less dilating - on cervadil, I have no idea why we thought pitocin was a good idea????

Don't get me going on the Cervadil stuff. Just the word alone makes me shiver Anyways, they used Cervadil on me and inserted around 11pm that night. My entire family was there and they were all nervous that if they left I was going to go into labor, but the nurses kept telling them there was no way I will be going into labor on the cervadil and they told them it will probably take me until 2 days to give birth since I was being induced so early. So they left and figured they return the next day around 12.

Well they gave me a morphin shot in my bum so I could get some rest. So I passed out and slept amazingly well the entire night. I woke up the next morning in severe pain around 8:30am. The monitors showed me having irregular contractions. By 9:30 I was asking for pain meds and feeling like I was going to puke everywhere. The nurses kept telling me that I "had a long way to go and couldn't get any pain meds until I was at least 3cm. I was racing back and forth to the toliet feeling like I had to poo. Then by 10:30 I was begging them to take the cervadil out because it was killing. They kept saying I needed to keep it in until at least 11am. My MIL showed up and saw what a wreck I was ..then I started gushing blood. My DH and MIL were screaming for the Dr to come in and check me. Well Dr was busy delivering a baby, so a resident checked me (aka an intern). He removed the cervadil and checked and said I was not dialated and only 50% effaced.

I wanted to cry and rip out his curly hair

I started gushing more blood and got into this really weird calm state of mind, it was odd. My MIL had 5 kids and knew the baby was on the way. So she went into the hallway grabbed the Dr and made her come check me. She checked me and was like "holy *****, the baby is coming, you need to push" She didn't even have her gloves on and Owen's head was already out. The resident had to hold his head to keep him from coming out...then what do you know Owen was born at 10:58am...no pitocin, just cervadil.

and my mom missed the entire birth oh and I tested positive for Strep b and never recieved my antibiotics..thankfully Owen was perfect and healthy

so that's my cervadil story, thanks for letting me share

Thanks! even though Owen's birth was 7 months ago, I just can't seem to let go of what happened. I guess because he was taken away from me for awhile after he was born and we didn't get to have that immediate bond. It was just kinda traumatic and still bothers me.

I had cervadil with my 3rd who was induced at 36w 1d. They did the cervadil for 12 hours which started some contractions every 2-3 minutes but they weren't strong.

After 12 hours they started pit and 4 1/2 hours later my dd was born!

I had cytotec the night before my induction.
I had no side effects and I am glad I had it asmy cervix was "long and tight" when I was admitted.
