How long did it take for your placenta to deliver?

Did you get to see it or was it just taken away?

Did you save it?

What did it feel like for you when it was delivered (I felt tremendous relief)?

C-section moms: What happens with the placenta in a c-section? Does the doctor simply remove it through the incision? I confess I really don't know!

They take it out thru the incision. They don't show it to you, but probably would if you asked to see it. I have no clue what they do with it - probably send a piece to pathology and dispose of the rest with the biowaste. Mine actually came out before the baby.

I don't really remember. I think it was somewhere around 10 minutes after delivery.

Did you get to see it or was it just taken away?
I didn't see it! I didn't want to. DH saw it, and he wishes he didn't!

Did you save it? Nope.

What did it feel like for you when it was delivered (I felt tremendous relief)?
I didn't feel anything.

How long did it take for your placenta to deliver? With Cassidy, only about 5 minutes. With Joel, an hour. They had the OR all prepped for me to have a D&C when it finally came out on its own.

Did you get to see it or was it just taken away? I saw it both times.

Did you save it? No way! But I know having it encapsulated can help with PPD.

What did it feel like for you when it was delivered (I felt tremendous relief)? It felt like a huge painless contraction and was incredibly soothing as it passed through the birth canal. I'm so weird, I know, but it was the best feeling ever.

I don't remember much about the placenta at all. Just them telling me to push some more for it to come out as I was either holding my baby (with my son) or watching the NICU nurses with my baby (with my daughter). I saw it both times, but not closely, just as they were putting it into the basin.

With my daughter, they sent it to pathology since she was anemic and had a 1-minute APGAR of zero. They did find a clot in it that can cause anemia, but it wasn't large enough that it should have caused any issue.

How scary! She's okay now, though, isn't she?

She's fine now. She had to get a blood transfusion when she was just a few hours old. They never did find the cause of her problems.

My answers refer to my last birth.

7 minutes on its own. Absolutely no cord traction.

I saw it. It was inspected in front of me.

Did you save it?
Yep.

Not much of anything, really. Just a little pressure.

How long did it take for your placenta to deliver?
Under 10mins

Did you get to see it or was it just taken away?
I got a glimpse of it but was too busy falling in love with DD and getting her to latch on...

Did you save it?
No

What did it feel like for you when it was delivered (I felt tremendous relief)?
I didn't even notice it was delivered... the OB did tug on the umbilical cord and that hurt I did yell at him and told him if he yanks it again he was getting my foot in his face, he didn't yank at it again needless to say...

How long did it take for your placenta to deliver?
Ds1-the doctor forcefully removed it directly after birth. He had to stitch me up and move along to the next room I'm sure, so he didn't wait for it to come on it's own. He was maybe in my room for a total of 20-30 minutes with the whole delivery.
Dd-1 hour.
Ds2-nearly an hour.
Did you get to see it or was it just taken away?
Ds1-no.
Dd-yep, though my mom took care of that and I didn't really get to see it much, she likes to be in charge-in a mean way.
Ds2-yes, I looked it over and everything, it was awesome!
Did you save it?
Ds1-no.
Dd-no.
Ds2-yes, I encapsulated it.
What did it feel like for you when it was delivered (I felt tremendous relief)?
Ds1-no idea, I didn't feel it.
Dd and ds2-relief, and like a big blob falling out. It was humorous to me.
