There was thick meconium with my daughter. There were NICU nurses waiting to suction her when she was born. They also want to keep the baby as quiet as possible at birth so that a cry doesn't draw it into the lungs--which meant I wasn't allowed to catch her. Since she had to go to the NICU anyway because she was anemic they also gave her antibiotics as a precaution.

My son had meconium staining, but since his water broke before it happened, it just meant that he had a poopy butt when he came out. It was noted on his charts, but nothing special was done for it.

No meconium either time. I'm assuming because my water broke at 37+4 both times so they didn't have time to develop that much.

No meconium here. My dd didn't become stressed until long after my water had broken. Actually we have a funny video of her in the nursery. The nurse is explaining to my DH that she is going to measure her temperature rectally and right as she touches Claire, my Princess poops all over the nurse. And she laughs and says, well nevermind. We'll do it another way. And then she just took an axillary temp.

Nope (excluding ds1 since passing mec is common when babes are in distress or it is done after they pass/die).

This thread is interesting to me. Since both of my children passed meconium before they were born, I kind of figured it was somewhat normal. I guess not!

My son did. Only because he was in distress. He didnt' swallow it or anything, just pooped as he was basically coming out. He was stuck.

No. It scares the crap outta me, I know medical technology has come A LONG way but Roberts Grandmother gave birth to her 4th child a little girl (she had 3 boys before) and she died. Im not exactly sure on what happened but im pretty sure she pooped before she was born.

Its soo sad, when Roberts grandfather holds Olivia, he says "its different having a little girl, we never got to experience that"
