I heard that your second labor goes by faster then your first... Is this true? With my first I went into labor around 8pm and when I decided to time my contractions it was around 11pm and they were 3 minutes apart. When I had got to the hospital they said I was dilated to 8. Then a few minutes later I had a epidural and when they checked me again I had went down to a 6. I ended up having him the next morning at 3:36am.

Do you think that a second labor goes by faster?

I'm not sure....I think baby's position, mom's position, and other things play a bigger role in the speed of labor, but I could be wrong I'm waiting to find out myself!

Congrats to you though!

For me it was true! Both of my labors were spontaneous home births with no interventions.

My first labor began with my water spontaneously breaking and ended with delivery 16 hrs after. I had contractions right away but they were mild until 4 hours before DS1 was born.

My second labor went FAST. Moderate contractions started at 9am, I was 6cm by 11am and DS2 was born 3.5 hrs later. My total labor was 5.5 hrs and only 30 mins were super intense.

My second was less than half the time of my first. First baby: 17 hours. Second baby: 6.5 hours. Second baby was also 2 pounds heavier than my first and was far easier to deliver. However, with second and subsequent babies you're more likely to have prodromal labor, which is like early labor which can go on for days and even weeks before you go into active labor. I experienced this...I kept having contractions on and off for 12 hour periods (not very painful, just uncomfortable) for a week. Then my water finally broke and I had him 6 hours later.

I'll let you know in about two months when this one comes. haha. While my first was pretty quick for a first timer (7 hours) it was helped along with pitocin. I think I'd be happy if it was that long, or slightly shorter.

It depends on your babies size, position, your spinal alignment and general health between one pregnancy and the next... and more.

My first was: 7 hours
Second: 11 hours (posterior baby)
Twins: 5 hours (36 weeks gestation)
Last: 21 hours (pain free, big baby)

I would choose my slow and steady over my fast and furious any day.
