How did you choose who you trusted to handle your prenatal/delivery/postnatal care?

In small town New England the choices are limited, lol! I did know I wanted a midwife, and the two that deliver at our hospital are both awesome, so there was really no competition. I've loved them both from the beginning. they even handle my paps and stuff when I'm not PG.

A midwife was not an option for me because I am high risk patient when pregnant. The GYN that I had seen for years stopped delievering babies shortly before I found out I was pregnant. Of the OBs covered by my insurance, one of them saw a lot of high risk patients so I decided to go with them. I was very happy with my decision.

I was seeing an OB before I got preg (ob and RE, bry is an IUI baby) and at my 15w appt Dr. C said "You need to go to the midwives down the hall, you are not a good canidate for a c-section " I was open with her about what I wanted as far as my birth and post partum wishes, and she referred me to my midwives. I've never looked back! They also do my paps and stuff.

There are 5 midwives that I saw, and I formed an especially strong bond with one of them - and she happened to be the one on call when I was in labor with Brylie. I can't imagine ever having anyone else deliver my baby - and at my impromptu spotting appt yesterday I told her some of my concerns (I really don't trust one of her colleagues, she bold face lied to me when i was getting ready to be induced) and Heather said she would come in and deliver Bebo even if she's not on call I love her.

I chose the place I did, because a good friend of mine went there and the medical problems she had during her pregnancy and when she delivered her baby at 25 weeks they impressed me...

Although when I went through them with my pregnancy I was the least bit impressed...

I live by a reall small town so I looked in the paper who was being thanked the most in the birth announcements. When I called to book my first prenatal it ended up being him and 7 years later he still is our family doctor. Since he is a family doctor and OB/GYN he see us for everything.

Mine was more trial and error... The OB I had with Noah, I didn't really care much for and I couldn't stand his nurses or the other OB there. So when I got pregnant with Nicky, I looked for someone else. There were 3 OB's that my insurance covered that delivered at the hospital I wanted, so I just picked one of the other 2 and have been sooooo glad I did. I've had nothing but good experiences with this OB!

with my first, a friend recommend her midwife. So I went to her and she diagnosed my PCOS and helped us get pregnant after several years of TTC. Our personalities didn't mesh particularly well, but I stayed with her for the pregnancy/delivery out of loyalty and she was great during labor

my second - I wanted a waterbirth and the birth center was the only option for that (though mid-way through the pregnancy I decided I wanted a homebirth, but didn't want to change providers). That midwife was pretty crappy and I wished I had changed

my third - wanted a waterbirth and the birth center had closed, so I chose to do a homebirth. A friend had started seeing a home-birth midwife before her miscarriage and I really liked her, so decided to use her for my birth. Super glad I did and any future children I'll use her again

My OB was the same person that did my pap's every year. I just really liked her and trusted her. I ended up being high risk, and was grateful to have her. Without her i don't believe Teddy would have made it to 39 weeks.

I just wish she had been the one delivering my baby.... grrr

Thanks!! I took that picture at the hospital about a half hour after Savannah was born with my cell phone. I've tried getting them to all sit together again so I can get a clearer picture of them all together, but they won't cooperate LOL
