What are you guys doing to give your LOs independence these days?
Jace loves to do things himself, so we let him zip up his sleepers at night (the top 1/2) and he's great with helping out with simple tasks like throwing something away for me. What else are you guys doing that I'm not thinking of?
Emmersyn is really into the cutie or sweetie oranges. They're small, seedless oranges. She loves them. But most of all - She LOVES to peel them herself. I give her a red solo cup and I start the peel for her, and she does the rest. Peels it, pulls it a part in half and then pulls each piece off one by one. She LOVES this.
She also throws stuff away for us.. Puts her cups in the sink when she's done.. I let her help with the dishes sometimes - Handing me her clean cups and plates out of the dish washer, and putting utentsles away. She also likes to help pull laundry out of the drier and into the basket for me as well. Sometimes I'll let her walk, while holding my hand, in a parking lot if it isn't too crazy. She also likes to help buckle her car seat straps - Both at the crotch & chest.
Her favorite phrase these days is "Kylie do?" so I've been trying to find more and more ways to let her help out. She likes to brush her teeth, comb her hair, tries to put on her shoes.
She is very helpful with things such as throwing things away, and practicing a lot with help clean up her toys.
Gabby always says "I help you" lol so I let her brush her teeth after I give a good brush, throw things away, sweep, put her shoes on. While cooking, she is always wanting to stay in the kitchen with me, so I ask her to open the fridge for me and hand me things.
Also, eating is fight all the time but she really likes to feed herself and i notice she eats more when she does. So I try to let her feed herself as much as possible (even though that gets messy).
Kaedence likes to brush his teeth, put silverware away, and pick up his toys. It's especially great that he sees older brother do these things, so he does it pretty willingly.
Jaxon love to say, "my turn" and "Jaxon do it". He likes to peel the cutie oranges too, pick up his toys whether we are home or at someone else's house, wash his hair and body in the tub, wipe his own face and hands and clean his tray after meals, throw away trash for us, pick out his own underwear in the mornings, go to the bathroom and flush the toilet (I still wipe him but he gets mad and wants to do it), picks out 3 bedtime books every night....that's all I can think of for now. He is very independent and likes to do things on his own. I'm hoping we will want to help getting diapers and other things when his little brother comes too!
