ok, im not very good at retelling stories but ill give it my best.
so i was scheduled to talk induction on thursday aug 27th, but they called me on tuesday to ask if i wanted to go in wednesday, so of course i jumped on that.
i arrive thursday around 1:30 but due to them forgetting to tell me where to go/me not asking, i was rushed around to 3 different waiting rooms before finding where i was supposed to go (arrgg i was starting to hate hospitals).
so by the time they saw me they had 2 other women already hooked to moniters (monitering contractions) and had applied the gel to them.
the doctor examined me and said i was 75% effaced and 2cms dialated so i didnt need the gel. he thought for sure that the sweeping of the membranes was going to cause me to go into labour. i had a few contractions that night...then nothing. so they scheduled me to be induced that friday.
i was to wait by the phone and they would call me to come in. but call if they hadnt by 11 am.
well 11am hits and i call and make sure they remember me. they tell me im next on the list and ask for my cell number so i can go about my day and not stress over waiting for the call.
so rather than stay at home paranoid of missing the call, i decided to go bowling...yes bowling... and i even won!

it got to be about 1:45 and i was getting anxious so i thought i would walk around the public gardens in halifax and enjoy an ice cream while i walk...maybe id go into labour from all the activity...no.
so i had to pee...i go into the washroom and as soon as i sit down, my phone rings. i was so excited i didnt care...the nurse told me to come in over the sound of flushing public washroom toilets. i tell her ill be there in 10 minutes.
so i sign in, they take me up stairs and it was like everyone was just waiting for me to arrive. they take me right into the room. hook up the oxytocin IV and the doctor checks me again. i was dialated only 1/2 a cm more, but he breaks my water.
the contractions started off tolerable so i went for a little walk. well i walked maybe 10 minutes and it got too painfull. i went back to the room and did what i could to get comfortable. i rocked on the birthing ball a while, then the nurse came in and asked me about an epidural. i said i didnt need one yet but i would like to get one when it gets bad. she informed me that the anesthesiologist (sp?) was stuck in surgery and like 5 other women were waiting for theres. so i just said sure, add me to the list.
well when the contractions started getting worse i decided to try to get in the tub. the contractions were too strong though, i found it was way too uncomfortable, so i got out and back into bed and by then i was in pain enough that i was ready for the epidural. well prayers were answered..the woman before me gave birth too quick and didnt get her epidural...lucky for me...sad for the last woman...
oh my i was happy to have gotten the epidural. it made me slighly sleepy but i was comfortable. well i started feeling the contractions pretty hard again and the nurse said that when i feel pressure in my behind to let her know...well by the time she said that i had been feeling them for like 15 minutes. so she had me do "practise pushes" well she checked me during my 2nd or 3rd practise and i was 10 cm's and baby was coming. she quickly called in the doctor, and i kept pushing with contractions. well i didnt even see the dr come in. they said push, hard, i heard his voice telling me to keep pushing and i did. i could feel the baby coming more than i had wanted to so i pushed as hard as i could just because i wanted the pain to stop. i ended up pushing between contractions and actually yelled at the nurse " WELL THEN TELL ME WHN IM HAVING A CONTRACTION!!""
she'd tell me when to push and 1/2 of pushing and he popped out.
i immediately sat up and looked over him, and even cut the cord myself. when they took him to get cleaned on the other side of the room, i collapsed back and just watched him. then i focused on what they were doing below.. the after junk came out easily, but then they started talking about stitching me back up. well just examining everything REALLY HURT, so they numbed it but it still really hurt. they handed me my baby and i just focused on him. thats when i noticed there were 4 doctors staring at my hoohaw, and thats when i heard them ask for the anesthesiologist..but he was tied up in 2 surgeries. they said they would have to go to work without it, so i was like..cant i have some of the gas stuff.. and they all agreed and gave me the tube.
well i heard the words "but where does this piece go" and just decided to suck harder on the tube...i did not want to know what was going on down there. so i sucked me tube and held my baby... 2 hours later they were done sewing me up.
but surpriseingly it was all worth it for my perfect baby boy..who just had a huge poo... ill have to finish later
but to sum up.. Declyn Caleb Hubley was born on August 28th at 11:37 pm
