Well, ladies, I wanted to share, but I will keep it short!
I woke up Sunday the 23rd at 6am to a mild contraction, fell back asleep, woke up from another around 7, fell back asleep and woke up at about 8:30. Contractions were mild and felt like cramping. So, I ran to the store and got some last minute things, went home and made some food to eat/freeze and talked to DH (in Africa deployed right now) for about 40 minutes. He was really loaded, but it was nice to talk to him, let him know what was going on and to hear his voice before going through everything. I took a shower and went back to a friends around 4:30pm.
Contractions were gradually building throughout the day. I didn't feel the need to be checked until 9:30 that night, but still new it wasn't quite time. I was a 3 when they checked me and they let me walk for half an hour to see if that helped. Well, it didn't so I got sent home. They said come back when contractions are 2-3 minutes apart for 2-3 hours and you can't walk or talk through them.
Got back to my friends place around 12:30 in the morning and tried to get some sleep. Didn't happen, laying down made them worse. So, I timed my contractions and paced her kitchen floor until 3:00 am and decided it was time to go. By the time I got the hospital and got checked it was 4:30 am. I was checked and was 5-6 cm! I told them right away that I wanted the epi. I was going to try and go natural but after talking to the nurse earlier we decided I should just get it anyways because a possible hereditary allergic reaction to general anesthesia. If I would have had to get an emergency c-section I would have been screwed with no meds!
I layed in that frickin triage bed until 7 am riding out my contractions. The nurse didn't tell me anything until 5:45 saying that they were waiting for a room for me, a lady just delivered a little bit ago and that I should be in there at 6 am. Like I said, didn't get into my room until 7, not happy!
The anesthesiologist was waiting to put the epi in. I just bawled because I was in so much pain, I was sick of waiting, sleep deprived and the nurse was asking me about my husband who just deployed three weeks earlier. After that I was checked and was 7 and they broke my water.
Checked again and was 9 at 9 am and full dialated at 10 am. I said I wanted to wait to feel the urge to push and started at 10:30 am. Pushed for about 45 minutes and out she came! Pushing went great and I used the handles. I only tore a little bit and needed on stitch. Surprised I did so well for being awake and in labor for 27 hours!
My doctor just happened to be on call, so he was there. I was so excited. I healed quickly and am thankful that things went well, aside from DH missing it
That's all ladies, thanks for listening!
