I was due for induction on the 24th due to health problems and we had to move cross country August 1st. They did an amnio on the 23rd and according to the results ( doctor thinks the lab messed up) his lungs were only at 34 week maturity. So they put off the induction until the 29th. Meanwhile we are staying in a 29 ft camping trailer with 4 kids and two dogs because our landlords let our house foreclose. Went in on the 28th for another amnio. This time the results came back as being 39 week maturity. I was 38 at that point. So my induction was supposed to happen the next morning. That night I started into major contractions. He was coming whether or not he was induced. I woke up at 3 in pain and DH asked if I wanted to go into the hospital. I told him no since we had to head to the hospital in 3 hours anyway. Well we get a phone call at 5:45 saying that there were too many births and they don't have room for the induction and to call back at 11. So we call back at 11 and they say call back at 1. Finally at 1 they tell us to come in at 4. I was still having contractions, but wasn't timing them.
At 4 we got to the hospital and sure enough my contractions were 2 minutes apart and 1 minute long. So the dr came in broke my water and checked me about 5:30. I was at 5 cm without knowing it. At around 6:30 or so he came in an told me he was going to assist in a surgery and would be out around 9. He didn't want to give me pitocin since I was in labor on my own. Of course an hour after he left my contractions stopped. Labor stalled completely. When the doctor came back he started me on pitocin. The baby's heartrate started dropping with contractions. He came in to check me and put a fetal scalp monitor on. The baby's heartrate continued to drop. At about 11 he came in and checked me. I was at 6 still. He checked the baby's position and said the baby wasn't dropping because he was sunny side up. So he reached in and turned him. Thank goodness for epidurals. If I hadn't have had one I am sure it would have hurt. Within 1/2 hour I was almost at 10 with just a little lip of cervix left. With the baby's heartrate dropping into the 50's it was time to get him out. I thought for sure it was going to be a c-section. Next thing I know the nicu team rushes in for the delivery. I was crying thinking the baby was going to have problems. The dr has me push a few times and then has me stop. My heartrate was almost 200. Due to my heart condition I have a hard time pushing for any length of time. So the dr gets the vacuum and does a complete episiotomy. The baby came right out. He was 7 lbs 15 oz and 20 inches long. He was born exactly at midnight. Not a second before or a second after. We got to choose his birthday which was really cool. Turns out the cord was wrapped around his shoulder and everytime a contraction came it would tighten. Luckily he was perfect. We were both discharged the afternoon of the 31st.
