I've been super positive ever since I found out I have endo. I have talked about it much with my husband cause he doesnt want to think about it so putting on a brave face was easy til now. I've been researching everything thats going to happen. The day of surgery, the walk through, the recovery time, things I can and cant do and Im starting to get scared. I've never had surgery so I didnt really know what to expect. I know they are putting me under but then I read they have to put a tube down my throat and after 7 years of battling bulimia and over coming it I have a sensitive reflex and that scares me. So, can anyone who has had a laparoscopy tell me about their surgery/ recovery time/ anything. I know all cases are different but I need reassurance... Thanks ladies

hi and welcome to the endo board.

i am sorry you going through this. it has ben a few years since my lap, the only hard part was the gas they fill your stomache area with. it took me a few days to get over it. it was more discomfort then anything else.

i was back at work after a week, mostly cos i stand all day.

i am sure some of the other ladies here will be along soon to give you there experiences. try not worry though.

I've had four laps. I was nervous every time but really they aren't that bad. You'll be a liitle sore afterwards and have some issues getting off the couch or about of bed. I was out of work just a few days with all of them. The last was the hardest because I also had an ovary removed. As far as the tube goes, they won't put it in until you are out. You won't remember them putting it in or taking it out. You'll have some gas pain. Gas-x will help some and so will walking. I recommend asking your doc if you can take something like Colace for a few days before the surgery and while you're taking pain pills. Anesrhesia and narcotics both have a tendency to cause constipation. If you have any questions just ask!

I've had this surgery 3 times (once for an ectopic pg, but it is the same procedure) and it hurts afterwards for a few days, but for the most part it is a piece of cake. Like the PP said, you won't even remember the tube. All that I remember from my surgeries is being in the prep room and getting my iv started, and putting the fashionable gown, hat, and pressure hose on. The nurse would then give me a dose of something to help me relax. Then she would take me into the surgery suite and I would lay on the table, and they put one of the squishy oxygen masks over my nose and mouth (and I got to choose which scent I wanted, from things like grape, bubblegum, watermelon, etc). They told me to count down from 10, and I only got to 9 before I was knocked out.

Next thing I know I'm in recovery. No recollection of any intubation or anything like that. They do all of that after they have knocked you out. At that point I didn't feel pain yet b/c they still have you drugged up. Even once I started feeling pain, my nurse would give me a couple doses of morphine before I had to leave. They would want to see me get up and pee at least once, and my doctor would come in to discuss what she found, and then I went home. It hurt pretty bad for the next couple days, but you'd be surprised how quickly you will recover. Your doctor will send you home with pain medication, though. The more you move around, the better you will feel. I would stay in bed for the first day or so after surgery, but after that I would be up on the sofa.

Good luck!! I'm sure you'll be fine. I hope it goes well, and that you recover quickly!

HI and welcome! I had my lap done almost a year ago. Yes they do put a tube down your throat. I would voice your concerns to your doctor. The recovery was not that bad. I was not working at the time so I was able to take more time. I think I was sore and need help on and off the couch for a day or two. I think it was about a week for me to feel much better. Don't rush into vaccuuming. I vacuumed like fouor days after my surgery and wound up hurting myself so give yourself a couple weeks. The gas they pump into your stomach relocated itself in my right shoulder and that hurt pretty bad for like 24 too 48 hours and the constipation was no good. All and all recovery was not that bad! Good luck!

Thank you ladies. All this has helped some. I just have to take it one day at a time before and after the surgery. I have 3 large dogs that count on me and my husband will be back at work 2 days after my surgery and he works out of state so I think I'll be putting them in the kennel til I feel better.

I know I'm a few days late, but you'll do great in surgery! Like Kerian and Cait said, the worst part is they pump you full of gas and it takes a few days to get out). And within a few days I felt better than I had in years. Both of my surgeries were on Thursday, and each time I was back to work with no problems on Monday. I wished I had gone long before I did. You'll do great! And I bet you'll get your BFP soon after.

Lucy light be right on the pg. I had mine in Feb. and was pg in May. You have a better chance for 3-6 months after a lap.
