So I am growing strawberries in a container in my backyard and everything is fine and dandy until they are actually red and ripe. Then they look mushy and some have deep cuts in them. I've read that snails come when they start to get ripe. Does anyone else have this problem, and if so, what do yo do to prevent it?
I have that problem with some of my fruit trees. I also heard that fruit that sits right on the dirt is more apt to get little bugs that migh cause the fruit to rot. In fact, dh was talking to somebody the other day who suggested putting straw under where the fruit is. It helps prevent the little bugs.
