Checked my garden when I got home from work today, one of the watermelon sprouts was withered and doesn't look like it'll make it. The soil was pretty dry, so I immediately watered them. Can you over-water? How many times a day do you water?
We do drip irrigation and water a couple of times a day I think for a few minutes. They are on timers. We figured out what works just by observing. If its dry water more or more often. If it comes time to water again and the soil is super moist still then you know you over watered. We do it all by trial and error and adjust as we go. The weather makes it depend too.
We have drip irrigation too. Right now, it goes on at about 0745 each day, and waters for 35 minutes. That seems to be enough for now. I live in the desert, though, and usually by the time the weather is super hot, I have to water twice a day .... once early in the am and then once the sun sets for a few minutes. That's worked well so far.
It really depends. At first once a day was working for my little garden but recently it has become increasingly hot and humid and I water twice and day and just totally saturate the dirt. I personally don't think you can over water. Obviously don't drown your plants but give them enough. I do it once in the morning and once at night.
