Do you have an herb garden that is separate from your vegetable garden? I saw this article in Mother Earth News (aka my fave magazine ) and I decided to move my herb garden near my house. I think I will plant it in between my tansy and tulips on the south side of the house.

Use One of These 4 Simple Garden Designs to Grow the 12 Best Kitchen Herbs - Organic Gardening - MOTHER EARTH NEWS

Last year I had herbs in with my vegetable garden, but I wasn't thrilled with the output. I'm also planning to bring some inside this winter, I haven't been much for growing indoors, but after having some survive last year I think I will!

That's what I did last year, but to be honest I am running short on space... the yard looks giant in the winter/fall, but in the spring and summer when the black walnut tree has leaves, there is way too much shade! It's good shade for cukes, squash and melons to grow, but tomatoes and peppers are NOT happy with it. Since the herbs take up so much less room, I'm escorting them to the side of the house. I put some tomatoes over there last year, but forgot to water them... luckily I've done enough work on that side of the house already this year that I will definitely keep an eye on them this year!

I wish we had a sun window! My mom has a bay window in the kitchen that she uses for growing in the cold months. I just don't have the baby- and toddler-proof space for growing herbs indoors
