Hi I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Maureen and we recently heard the dreaded words Failure to Thrive at my daughter Megan's last check up. She is 16 months old and 15lbs. It wasn't too much of a concern before because she always stayed on the 5th % for weight but has dropped down to the 1st. Now we just have to figure out whats going on. She loves to eat so thats not it. They took alot of blood at her checkup so that they can run some tests. Now we just wait. Hopefully someone can help me understand what could possibly be going on in that little body of hers. Can't wait to get to know everyone!
(((Hugs))) and welcome to the board. There are a lot of different things that can cause failure to thrive. For my son, the problem was his eating. We still have a lot of problems getting him to eat. He drinks a lot of pediasure. I know they ran a lot of different tests on him. They will probably be looking at metabolic disorders, cystic fibrosis, and some other chromosomal tests. Some of these tests take a couple months to get the results back on.
We have a small group here on the Failure to Thrive board but everyone is very supportive. Welcome.
Welcome....my kids haven't been officially diagnosed since they are staying around the 3rd percentile but I am concerned because my ds is always on the move and goes on eating strikes for months at a time. Know that we are here for you as you wait for your results.
Thanks for the warm welcome. Still no news on the test results yet so we're hoping that no news is good news. I think I jinxed myself by calling her a good eater though. She's suddenly turned into a very picky eater overnight. I'm praying its just a phase!
