New and an intro...

Hi ladies-
I'm new to this board but not to JM. I'm a member of the Nov 08 PR...I don't have a whole lot of time to get on JM but I try to lurk regularly. I came across this board recently. My son is 7 months (as of the 2nd) and he weights 12 lbs 11oz. The doctor referred him to an Endocrinoligist, Nutritionist and a Urologist. He was born 2 weeks early via emergency c-section due to IUGR....anyone else dealt with IUGR? We aren't sure if his small size is still due to the IUGR, something else completely...or if he's just a little guy. He is proportionately small...below the 5th percentile in head circumference, weight and height. He is not a very good eater...we introduced solids around 5 months and he just doesn't care for it...we can MAYBE get him to eat 1/2 - 1 jar a day...MAYBE. I'm just ready to have answers. If he's just small, I'm okay with that...but if there is a bigger issue, I want to fix it. I want him to grow like other babies. He is right on track developmentally...just super small. ETA- He was born 4lbs 1 oz and 17.5 inches long. His weight gain overall seems great...tripled his birthweight in 6 months but the pedi is not happy with his weight and the fact that he is not catching up.

Hi and welcome! Sorry to hear about the slow weight gain. My little guy is Jonah and he is newly 2. He was also an "IUGR" baby, 5lbs 1oz and 17.5" at birth (38 weeks). Like your little guy, he has always been small, but pretty proportionate. He is off the charts for weight, just below the 3rd %ile for height and off the charts for head circumference. He was 13lbs at 7 months and is now 20lbs on a good day at 2 years old. I think the endo and nutritionist is a great start in investigating his lower weight. Has he been maintaining his own curve on the growth chart? Anyway, welcome again!

Thank you Tracy...sounds like my little guy is right along the same track as yours...it's encouraging to hear that your little boy is happy and healthy. Did you ever have to get testing done? Is he just small....as in there's no "syndrome" or anything causing it? That is what I'm hoping for Blaise...As far as his own curve, I believe he has been maintaining his own curve...but I'm not exactly sure. I'm really new to all of this. My DH typically takes Blaise to the appointments since I work during the day so I finally decided to accompany him last week so I could be in the loop.

It does sound like your little guy is just going to be small. Jonah has not been tested, our ped doesn't feel that he needs testing since he's been following his own curve. There's a website I like to use to track Jonah's growth. Baby Growth Chart You just put in his stats and it'll plot his curve.

welcome! My Abbey is 11mos old and weighs 13lbs, she was doing great the first 3 months and then all of the sudden stopped growing. She has had a feeding tube, had every yest under the sun and everything has come back normal. I finally decided to stop with all the testing, I can't watch her be poked and protted anymore, I have come to the conclusion she is just going to be a tiny kid.
