did anyone else ever get nervous about whether or not their LO was still growing? Danny had been going to weight checks either weekly or bi weekly for 1.5 years and all of a sudden it was come back in 3-4 months!!! I am so used to seeing his weight every few weeks at the most that I have began to grow quite nervous recently!
Yes, I totally got nervous when they stopped--though ours were not as frequent as yours. It gets better though. In time, you will stop worrying (as much) about the weight.
Although, I had a bit of a freak-out moment myself earlier this month when Joey went in for his one year appt. He had been sick end of January, so when we went in and they checked his weight. At his year appt. a week and a half later, he had lost almost a pound. I seriously think I started sweating bullets. But our wonderful pedi told me that he had gained in spite of being a ton more active, and his percentile increased, so all was well.
How's this for a shocker though--Joey is almost on 100% cow's milk and no reaction whatsoever! Every once in a while, he'll have a wet burp, but other than that he's fine. I can't even imagine after what we've been through.
That is awesome!!! It is so much easier to find tasty foods for LO's without any allergies! Congrats!
And....I caved yesterday...but not all the way. I took Danny to the scale in our bathroom and had him stand on it. He was 27.5 diaper only. Last weight check he was 27.5 with clothes on. So I didn't make it but who can actually quit anything cold turkey?
lol, I agree. I'm telling you I was this close to buying a baby scale when I felt it was too long between weight checks. Then I figured I'd have him on that stupid thing every hour and was able to resist the urge.
So, yeah, cow's milk--I'm thinking not so much. My mom said today (the day before we go straight cow's milk) he was throwing up a lot. When I got home he had weird mucousy diarrhea twice. I'm calling the doc tomorrow to see if we need to switch to soy.
If you have it I would stay on the formula...kids often correlate with Soy and Milk allergies so it would be really rough...he may also lose weight because switching to soy milk cuts A LOT of calories out...We had that problem...Danny switched from soy to rice milk when we found out he was allergic to soy and he lost 2 pounds in t2 weeks. It is a similar gap if not bigger between milk and soy so keep that in mind....
Thanks for the advice. I was starting to think about keeping him on formula. He (thankfully? not really a nice thing to be thankful for, I guess) had some kind of stomach virus, so he hasn't had milk at all in the past couple of days.
see if he does better post virus without reintroducing the milk...if he does I would wait for another few months and start with hard cheeses like cheddar and every two weeks get softer...mozzerella, cottage cheese, yogurt, ice cream, milk...that will give you a guage of what he can have because cheese is the lease likely to incite reactions...For someone his age he is really too young to go on just soy milk...especially with the FTT issues in the past...he just needs more calories than it has in it...
