7 year old failure to thrive

starting 7 years ago i went thru all this !

my daughter was IUGR intra uterine growth retardation as i was carrying her... they made me have her at 35 weeks 4 days she weighed 4lbs 3 oz took her home at 3.12 and she weighed 3.10 by the time i took her to the peds 2 days later.... weeks of weighing her breast feeding then weighing again .... then formula

*we did a hormone test ... all levels fine
*bone age test with the x-ray.... bones were the size of a 1 or 2 month old she was 6 months
*she had rsv at 1 month old and came home on oxygen for 3 months
*refluxxx....reflux.....reflux..... resolved at 1 year
*at one year i think she weighed 13-15 lbs
*gastro thought it was endocrine .... endocrine said no reason must be gastro... gastro eventually said she was born small she's going to be small... end of story

*she was on pediasure from age 1 to age 5 .... still drinking a bottle or cup of pediasure at night until almost 5
*took her to the doctors 2 months ago and they bring up the failure to thrive again.... this is a doctor who has never seen her...

O.K. AM I CRAZY !!!!!! why does everyone need a label or a diagnosis????/ why cant she just be pettite and small....... i just dont see how the growth hormones will guarantee any additional weight or height .... she has grown.... shot up a few inches during the summer like the other kids in her class but she's just not overall as big as them.... so something is working just at it's own pace....

i just feel that God has made her the way he wanted ... if we were all ment to be 5'8'' and 125 lbs then i sure as heck missed that mark and i want a redo .. lol .... i'm 5'11 and her dad is 6'3

do they do a bunch of testing on the overweight kids... to figure out why they are overweight?
so why the underweight kids???

now i realize if there is some medical condition for a sudden FTT then by all means figure it out but when there seems to be no reason than she's just going to be small... i can deal with that ... lots of people are "just small"

sorry for my rant..... why can't my little peanut be healthy and small .....end of story !!!!

Aww...sorry. That really stinks. Was it just because he/she was a new dr to her and didn't know anything about her? Is she on her own growth curve and maintaining that growth curve for height and weight even if it is way below the charts? If she is than I wouldn't worry about it. Dr's especially new Dr's to our kiddos get concerned when they see weight stats way below the charts...I know that with my son his condition is so rare it almost wasn't diagnosed. Even the test results said normal because the enzyme he doesn't make only has 8 other reported cases of that condition in the world. Sometimes I just had to remind myself that they had his best interests at heart too, you know your LO. If you know she is okay and just small for her age, that is what you should go by. Danny would get 2100 calories a day as a 9 month old and still lose weight...that is where we could see there is a definite problem...if you don't have any issues remotely close to that I wouldn't worry about her and just try to remind yourself that if you were in the Dr's situation and had never seen your daughter before that you may be concerned to that you might miss something that causes growth restriction and lack of weight gain....but like I said, you are mom and your intuition is paramount in the Dr's office. If you don't think she needs meds and they don't help, tell them and see what happens. If they can see they don't do anything and that she follows her own curve they should be fine. Someone has to make up the less than 3rd percentile right?
