Do you have friends or family that just don't understand what is going on with your child? I feel like people just think Brandon is your typical picky eater or think that if it were their child that they could get him to eat better. Do you ever feel like this?
I sorry its been so long since I have replied to anything on this board. We still don't have the internet at home so I don't get on much anymore. Boy do I ever know about people just not getting it. My MIL has told me that she will eat when she is hungry more times than I care to count. And my bro and his wife have two huge kids, their son is one day older that my daughter (just turned 2) and wears a 3t to 4t clothing. And they just don't see why we try to make her eat so much. She is just not hungry they say. But oh well, We have been to two different peds and both of them said the same thing as her original ped. She is small. They said she most likely wont be over 5 foot and she is just tiny. My son is 9 months old and she head is bigger than his as are his hands, his feet havent quite gotten there yet.
I still worry like crazy about her but they have all just said to offer her food and if she doesnt eat it then make sure and give her pediasure or whole milk with carnation instanst bfast in it. She is actually eating better but still she only weighs 21 pounds and is 30 and a half inches tall. I am still deciding rather I am just going to take their word for it that she is just small and just work with her eating, or get another opionon. Her last ped mentioned xraying her hand to try and judge her bone growth age. She said she didn't think her bone growth age would be over about 18 months. But she still didn't think there was much need for it. She was in a major childrens hospital and they said the same things basically. I did ask about a feeding clinic but she said she didn't have any problems with chewing or swallowing. She loves to chew gum (thank you grandma lol)so there is no obvious issues with chewing. wow, this is long! Sorry I went on so much!!
Talk to you later
I am so frustrated for you. I don't know why your doctor wouldn't make you a referral just to have her evaluated. They do a swallow study but just because you don't think she is having problems chewing/swallowing doesn't mean she might not have oral motor problems. Maybe you could get a referral to an occupational therapist. They know a lot more about this as well as sensory integration disorder. Most feeding clinics do not just work on chew/swallow problems they work on getting kids to eat more food. I am telling you that I had to switch pediatricians three times and raise holy he## to get Brandon a referral and I am so glad that I did.
