Hi I am new to this website. I have 4 daughters Libby is 10.5 and has always been smaller than average, but not too little (She is 4' 6'' and 68-70 lbs). Kayla is about to turn 7 and is super tall but thin. Again not too thin-I have no idea on her height as she keeps shooting up and has not been to the doctor in a year-healthy as a horse. My youngest will be 3 in December. She is ~32 or 33 inches and weighs almost 30 lbs-basically average heighth.
That leaves me with Caroline. She is 4.5 (Jan 2003) is hovering right near 30 lbs and is 38 inches-we hit it right on at a height/weight check, but then was slightly below 30 when she went for a TB test before she started PK. She was small but growing as a baby and early toddler years. The curve just flattened after 18 mos. She hit 20 lbs at her 18 mo check up-and it has taken the next 3 yrs to get to that 30 lb mark. At 2 yrs old, the doctor was not too concerned, because sometimes kids just stall, and then shoot up. We moved to Texas right before her 3rd birthday, and it was that check up where the doctor started getting concerned. She had only gained about 1.5 lbs and 2 inches from 2 to 3. She has always eaten lots of fruits and veggies. She loves butter, cheese, sour cream, and full calorie dressings on everything. She's always eaten 5 or 6 times a day, and would eat an entire bag of goldfish and a lb. of cheese for a snack if I let her. She is just extremely active and burns off everything she eats. We go in every 4 mos. for height and weight checks now, and have ran a battery of tests on her and not found anything. We have had a couple of appointmensts with an endocrinologist, and they do not see any problems. From 4 to 4.5 we had our first full fledged growth spurt. she gained 3 lbs and 2.5 inches. Unfortunately, it looks like she has stalled again, and I do not expect any growth next month at her ht. wt. check.
We were never diagnosed FTT, but we always deal with the issues of having a small child. We are lucky that she has grown enough in the last 6 mos, that she is just a little shorter than the other "small" kids in her class. She is just skinny as a rail. She is also very immature for her age, because so many people have treated like her size and not like her age. She gravitates towards younger kids because they are her size. We hope that Pre-K and soccer will help the maturity level.
Sorry so long...I like to ramble when I get going. Hope you do not mind me joining your group!
My son was FTT at 6 mo and they never found a reason for it. We *JUST* got cleared from our GI specialist thsi week, so I understand the bumpy road you've travelled. Sorry for spelling...i've got a helper trying to feed me chips, lol. please look around and keep us posted on progress!
