When Anna's size because a true concern, her ped referred us for an appointment at the children's hospital with a feeding team. There was a long waiting list, though, and our appointment wasn't until mid-November. They told us, however, that since she was so young (young toddler as a opposed to a child) at a low weight, that she would be given priority in case something opened up any earlier. Well, out of the blue, I got a call that we were given an appointment for this Monday now!!
I'm so excited about this. She will be seen (and actually be observed eating) by panel of feeding experts. There will be a GI, a nutritionist, a psychologist, and a speech pathologist there to assess the issue at hand. The reason she isn't gaining wait is clear...she won't eat! Even when she's hungry, she'll stuff the first few bites in her mouth ravenously, and then suddenly come to a halt and refuse to eat any more. We are hoping to discover here why that is the case. I'm just so excited to have these people SEE her problem, rather than just throwing all these recommendations at me about how to feed her. I was annoyed by the GI I saw earlier who recommending upping her to two cans of Pediasure a day rather than one, when I could barely get half of one in her! If I could just feed her more when I wanted to, I wouldn't have this problem, right?? Well, here I have a whole team of people who will see her for a whole morning and meet to discuss her, write a report together on her, and come to some sort of consensus. I can't wait to have all these different points of view all brainstorming on her. I'm really hoping to have a clearer answer, or at least some plan to try that is agreed upon by all these different people. I currently have two conflicting plans from a GI and a nutrionist she has seen. It'll be nice to have the top experts in eating problems in the area assess her. I can't wait!!!
