In the last month Carly's ped has tested her for CF, her white blood count, parasites, bacteria, done an EKG and put a heart monitor on her . Her shot have been delayed for the last 2 visits because the ped wants to wait until all testing is done.
All of the tests so far have been negative or normal. I am convinced that the doctor is trying to find something wrong with the baby and will not stop running these unneeded test (IMO). Now the doctor wants me to cut back on nursing and to start formula. I really don't like the idea of starting formula for the first time at 15 month. The doctor seems to be shocked that all of the tests are coming back fine and that she is going so well developmentally. The ped keeps telling me how low weight gain can affect the baby cognitively. The weight is always the first to go followed by lengh, and then head circumference. Her weight started to go at 6 months and she dropped of the charts at 9. Her length and head circumference are holding strong. I don't think she should worry until those start to drop. But, I am not a doctor either.
IMO there is nothing wrong with my baby, she is just small. At 15 1/2 months she is weighing 17.14 pounds. Below the 5th percentile. I was the same way when I was a baby, off only by ounces. I have told the doctor then and she does not seem to think there is a connection. I was a tiny baby and had to go to monthly weigh ins with my doctor as well. As an adult I have no trouble gaining weight.

it's okay, most of us have been there, too. have you gotten a second opinion? brandon only ever had issues with weight. his length and head circ and milestones, etc, were always fine and they never found anything wrong with him. we did all the testing just to rule it all out (our personal choice) but in the end he's just a bad eater. hugs, i know it's a frustrating road. in our case our pedi washed her hands of it and sent us to a GI specialist..we didnt like the first one and ended up switching and were really happy with our choice.
I can understand what you're going through! Anna has had to go through a lot of testing lately, and they haven't found anything for her either. The only thing they haven't tested her for are parasites.
Is Carly eating well? Anna's weight gain is obviously from lack of appetite, but they wanted to test for all those other things as well for some reason. I'm thinking she was going to be small anyway (full term birthweight 5 lbs 9 oz!) and without much of an appetite, well, that explains why she's not on the charts. I'm starting to get to a point, like you, where I just want to shrug off all the concerns. She seems perfectly fine and healthy in every other aspect besides her size.
