ok so Nichole's GI called yesterday (well the nurse...) and she said that the doctor does not want to run an allergy prfile on her but wants to talk about doing a biopsy instead!!! Ummm.... I am no doctor but doesn't it make more sense to do blood work to check for a food allergy (especially when that is more likely what it is, then to to put her under anasthisia????
has this ever came up like this for anyone else?

If i understand correctly, from what i've read, a lot of food allergies won't show up in a blood test. A lot of times the only way to know something's going on is to see the inflammation of the actual intestines. So perhaps that's why? Definitely ask the doctor to explain it to you though... You deserve to know what's going on and why.

thanks, I just feel this doctor is soooo convinced taht Nichole is Celiac and won't even consider other possibilities. Especially when the only thing that has come up on her blood word is low pH, and that is an indication of food allergies and carbohydrate intolerqances

I know how you feel with the doctor not listening and being convinced they know everything. I'm going through EXACTLY that right now with my pediatrician as well. We just have to remember that WE are our children's best advocates, so if we gotta look biotchy to fight for them... so be it.

I really hope your doctor is better than mine, and will address your concerns properly. Good luck!

thanks, and I hope your doc starts listening. I think I am just going to call a allergist myself. Or call the ped and ask for a referal to an allergist! I feel that is where the problem lies, not in her intestines but what is going in there!

We made an appointment for an allergist behind the GI's back lol. We go on the 27th, and tehy will do the testing same day, so we will have answers. Even if it's negative at least we will know before going back to the GI

Good for you getting another opinion! There is no need to subject her to a biopsy if you don't think other reasonable options have been explored yet. If doctors are annoyed, so be it. The doctors will ultimately be the ones to figure it out, but you need to do your best to get to the right answers too. Even if it still does come down to a biopsy, at least you did your part to make sure it wasn't an unnecessary test.

thank you, that's the way I see it too, if this comes back negative and she continues to drop in percentiles (or non percentiles since she is below it) then maybe a biopsy will be needed, but we will do a celiac diet before that as well.
