Carly is due for her 18 month check up. I have not even made the appointment. Every time I take her in the doctor orders more test to be ran. The we go through the same old things. What does she eat, how many ounces does she drink, how long does she nurse... Then she will suggest putting butter on her food, again. UGH.

She gained a pound between 15 and 16 months! She was 18 pounds!! Because of this we were able to stop the monthly weigh ins. I am so afraid that she did not gain enough to make the doctor happy. I do not think that she has gain to much in the past 2 months. She can still fit into her 6-9 month pants. Her 12 month pants only fit if she is wearing a cloth diaper. I do think that she is getting taller. Some of her 12 month shirts are getting to short on her.

I know the feeling! I feel like I live and die by the scale. Whatever number comes up determines if it's going to be a good appointment or a bad appointment, like roulette. You should make the appointment, though! Have to go through it one time or another.

I'm like you April. Anastasia has an appt on the 7th, and I'm dreading what her weight will be. She's on monthly weight checks and thus far hasn't gained anything. In 5 months she's gained less than a lb, and I"m worried it will now be 6 months and less than a lb. *hugs* I hope Carly has put on some weight, enough to keep the tests at bay. I wish there was just some way to see if our children are meant to be this tiny without having to rule everything else out.

During my preg with Claire that I cancelled all of Paige's specialist appts and weight checks because I had gotten to a point where I would cry before all the appts. She wasn't gaining (actually she was losing at my appts) and they kept ordering test after test. I just couldn't handle it anymore. She eats like a pig...WAY more than my 6 year old (even more than me sometimes) and yet she loses weight. That is also when I stopped coming to this board. I just couldn't talk about it or think about it. Now we are back on track with appts and I still dread them but not to the point I did when I was preg and emotional.

I hope you feel like you can stick around this time. This board is meant for support, not to make anyone feel bad If you ever feel overwhelmed by it all I hope you can vent to us. We've all been there.

I definitely feel I can stick around. It really had nothing to do with the board. I was just having a really hard time and couldn't handle talking about the weight gain issues at all. I guess I figured if I didn't acknowledge the fact that my DD is severely underweight than it wouldn't be true. I know it was mostly due to those darn preg hormones.

Usually I don't dread them too much, but we go to the feeding clinic every single week and I am not willing to let myself get stressed out over weight gained or lost in one week. She is actually losing weight right now, and I know it, but I am not getting worked up about it until I see the net gain/loss for 4 or 6 weeks.[/b]
Ugh, i hear ya. I just wish everyone else saw it the same way. My doctor completely chewed me out and dressed me down for implying that a one ounce loss over a week was a natural fluctuation, and not that big a deal.

plus the scale could be off from the previous week. It drives me batty when we go to a WIC appt and their scale is VASTLY off from her peds which is pretty close to our home one.

Yes! Although in our case it's the opposite... My scale and WIC's always seem to be the same, but the doctor's office is always 3 ounces less. So i always factor that in mentally when weighing him.
