UGGGGGGHHHHHH! Here is the story, my golden (samson 10yrs) isn't the biggest fan of little dogs, however, little dogs hump him all the time. Sooo, I live in the back guest house, and I always walk up to the front yard to make sure that the gate is closed. My front neighbor has 3 boys (10, 11,14) and one dog (adopted from us, we rescued him) The entire family ALWAYS leaves the front gate open. Their dog gets out weekly. Anyway, my boys (2 dogs) usually stay in the back unless there is action in the front (meaning, the kids are out, or the other dog is out). I personally shut and locked the front gate this afternoon. I always check before I let the dogs out. About an hour later, my neighbors youngest comes running to the back to tell his mother (who is talking to me) that my dog attacked 2 dogs out front. Now, I am thinking to myself, how is that possible? The gate is closed. Oh nooooo.... We run up front, the owner of the 2 little dogs is hysterically crying. My 2 dogs are in the yard, gate locked. Well, come to find out, the gate was LEFT open (after I had closed it) and my cranky golden ran down a flight of stairs, across the street and mouthed this ladies dogs. One was on a leash and one was in a "dogbaby" carrier. In the process of being terrified and trying to protect her dogs, she fell down. (she is a drunk, so who knows... but regardless, she hit the ground). We settled her down, checked the dogs over, they weren't even wet, so I don't think Samson actually mouthed or bit them. No blood, no moisture, nothing. The lady actually brought samson back across the street and returned him to the yard during all the hysteria. I apologized and asked her if she was ok. Then she realized that she had dropped her phone and the crazy neighbor (some guys who is "not all there") picked it up. She thought he was going to return it, but he went into the house and wouldn't answer. Sooooo, now I think that she is filing a police report for her phone in which she will report the dogs, which just makes the situation all unpleasant. I do live in sue happy los angeles. I could just kill my neighbors boys. It was the 14yr old, I saw him with his bike about 20 minutes before this happened. He admitted to going out to retrieve his dogs ball, but says he shut the gate. The sad thing is samson's growl is worse than anything. He had a little fluffy black dog try to terrorize him the first 5 yrs of his life. Now, he growls at all little fluffy dogs. Yet, if you bring the same dog into our yard our house, he wants to sniff them and play. GO figure. I hate it when my dog misbehaves. And I can't even reprimand him, because by the time I was out front the event was over, and they live in the here and now.

Ugh.. Crappy situation all around. Im sorry. I totally know what you mean about dogs being frustrating. Our pitbull hates anything smaller than him (animal wise not babies), and we have a half "mentally handicapped" (not really but it is my excuse for him) Boxer who doesnt like people not from our family... it is super hard to take them anywhere. even to the park. to make things worse my sister stayed with us for about 3 weeks and brought her 2 beautiful kittens with her. Well needless to say DH is an idiot (yeah we are arguing so i can call him that) and my sis said "if youre gonna let the dogs out please make sure my kitties arent out there" well DH let the dogs out, and the kitties WERE there!! unfortunatly my story wasnt as lucky as yours one ran, and the other well... he is an angel kitty now. Im sure Mrs. bottoms up over there won't sue. Lets just hope the cops smell the alcohol on her breath. Plus, even when she files it, you can show that her dogs have NO injuries what so ever, and if she has scrapes it will be easy to prove they arent dog bites. KUP for sure. sorry about the mess... wow and long rant.

That stinks Steph, and it's even worse because it's a situation you can't control--with kids that aren't even yours in the same yard and such

I hope the incident is quickly forgotten and nothing comes of it! KUP

that stinks!

for the future-can you put a lock on the gate? I mean one where you have to put a key in it to open it? That way the neighbors can't open the gate anymore...

UGH what a mess

I too hope it is all forgotten about soon. Poor Samson. He probably doesn't even know what he did wrong.

He doesn't know he did anything wrong. He is so special! LOL. I scolded him with the "shame on you". He hung his little head and laid down. Dan spoke to the lady this afternoon. She did get her phone back, and he said that she was way cool about it, and said that her dogs were alright. So, atleast I am not worried about having any lingering trouble.

As for locks, they live in the front house, and we live in the back house. Everyone uses the front and back gates. We just put a little gate up between their back yard and our house. I am just going to keep it closed until we move at the end of the year. I think we might install a spring that automatically closes the gate after it's opened. Then we wont have any issues.
